So me and a friend were joking about it and now I'm curious about starting my own club night.

We were thinking of a salsa/latin/moombahton/electro night, basically what I am currently doing at the dance studio, but with alcohol.

Can somebody in the know give me a couple tips? My own sound system and lights would be enough to start off with, do we just hire a function room and what we do in it is our own business? Go for minimum spend at the bar? Is the venue responsible for music and alcohol licencing?

Most small places ive looked at seem to have a minimum bar spend, Can I charge for entry and give a drink card, or would I need a liquor licence for that?

Hit JonnyB up, I think he has done this type of thing before and is in the process of organising a club night at the moment.

Also tomy knows Alot about this

Good question bro, I'd be super keen to know inside and outs. Especially when it comes to what to know when trying to get a club night happening.

I'm so fucking keen to get a underground night happening here!

But seriously, if you need disc jockeys lemme know chief

Right now its just drunken rambling, but I want to throw something by end of next month, even if its just 50 people chilling.

Were still working out the proposed music but yeh, the night would have a latin/electroy feel.As of now, i'd be soloing it, but more than happy to give you guys a set if you want one and music fits.

Dflux did one earlier this year

from memory he said he just booked the venue, i dont think there was a minimum bar spend but i doubt you would get the same deal with every venue.

Was a good night though

hey man, i work in venues, and you dont need any form of liquor license to pay out the bar tab and give drink cards to your friends... just need to organise it with the manager and say, every person is entitled to x ammount of dollars and i want them to have cards blah... tell them you will be supplying your own music. but some venues do have sound restrictions so it is best to ask them

give us a yell if you need anything else

Yeah man no liquor license is needed, cause the bar/club will have that taken care of, back when I 1st started DJ'n I was in my last yr of tafe, and we needed to hold fundraisers to help pay for our exhibitions, and for 1 of them I organized an event at a club, me n some frieds just spun all night, all I did was email the manager of the club and met with him to discuss the event, we charged $10 per person and the club made money back on drinks so it was a win win situation
