GREMM1S Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Flowing on from the SHM thread what's the best dj set you have ever seen live? Quote
Jaz Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 sub focus stereosonic i think for me, i was almost in tears, was heavily intoxicated though so may have added to it Quote
Jarred Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Knife party was fair hekkas, but i would narrow it down to Magnetic Man, Guiseppe Ottiviani and Above & Beyond. Quote
pundaddy Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Tie between Diplo @ Parklife last year & Knife Party @ Future this year, but theres so many good sets I've seen, its hard to say. Quote
russell Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 DJ set... pffff... there's been waaay too many over the last 10 years to pick one/remember them. Stand out ones I would say though are:Cassy/Ricardo Villalobos - Cocoon Opening Party, Amnesia, Ibiza, 2009.That night started at 00:00 with Cassy. Around 3am Villalobos joined her for some b2b action until about 5am then Villalobos himself. Me and the mrs left around 7:30am and he was still going. Think it went on until midday. I was buying rounds on my credit card which is bad news in ibiza. Magda - Sub Club, Glasgow, 2010 possibly?I've seen the subby go off may a time but on that night the place was berserk a well before she even came on the decks. When she did it was just insane. What a night.Thomas Bangalter - Tribal Gathering Weekender, Southport, 2002Played for a while and to be honest was pretty boring, building it up and bringing it back down with every record. Then there it was... instrumental of Stardust - Music sounds better with you. After that he tore the roof of for the last hour. fuckin class.Dave Seamen - Cream, Amnesia, Ibiza, some time in 2000Awesome just because it was one of my first nights out in Ibiza. All my mates had fucked off home but I stayed on. Was supposed to finish at 5am. 7am he dropped the instrumental of Planet Funk - Chase the sun.. followed by the vocal version. Bit of a moment with the sun shining on the roof of the club.Ricardo Villalobos & Richie Hawtin b2b, T in The Park, Balado, 2005Simply awesome. ironically this was live on Radio 1's essential mix with the first hour coming from non other than DJ Sneak. http://soundcloud.com/michaeljulian/richie-hawtin-ricardo-villalobos-sneak-essential-mixThere's a lot of other but I can't really think of them right now. Forgot a lot of shit that i've seen.Best non DJ set i've seen is Daft Punk, Rockness, Loch Ness, 2007. No better setting to see them in the world. In a tent that holds 10,000 there was at least double that before security had to take down the side of the tent. When they did the rest of the 40,000 people were gathered outside for a piece of the action. Daft Punk are no mugs either. The Main stage (and festival closing) set was Manic Street Preachers. Or at least it was meant to be. DP delayed their set by 45 mins so that they would be the closing act. People were going mentle, booing and shit. But when they came on it made so fuckin immense. Notice the closing fireworks at the main stage during Da Funk. amazing time was had. Quote

Huge night!Marcus Shultz @ Rise about 2 years ago was awesome.Apster was so much better then Afrojack! Was a shit night that anyways. DJ Hype @ Metro City back in 07 was my first show and that guy was crazy. Above and Beyond @ Future Music 09For the local lads, Zeke at the DMC state final @ The Rosemount. That guy was sick lolFlux and Doctor P @ Brown Alley last year. Bug night. Pendulum was by far the best show I've been too. These others were ok lol Quote
mattmace Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 My 2 best in recent memory are Calvin harris at stereosonic in 2010. By the time he came on my friends and i were all fucked, could hardly move any more and unimpressed with the acts playing so we were sitting in the stands just talking then when he came on he just created such good energy and kept it going though his whole set, i never rated him before that but he really impressed me and now he's one of my fav dj's to see live. Also Kissy sellout at the Family nightclub in bris. He played his whole set at about 134bpm and was constantly switching back and forth between tracks, sampling, just generally being fucking awesome on the decks, i was honestly gobsmacked, i'd never seen anything like it live. For anyone that hasn't seen it check out his pioneer dj sounds show set. He was just like that live! I think the crack he'd been smoking might have something to do with it but whatever floats his boat Quote
tubby Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 matt rowan at some crappy place on oxford street. went to see chris fortier who was woeful. 4am matt stepped on to close, the place was packed at 6am when he finished.dave seaman at space. got tickets well before but decided we didnt want to go, tried to sell them but no luck so went for a little while. not necessarily huge tunes but a lesson in the art of dj'ing. anytime interest started to drop he drew us back in. At the end of the set, went quiet and he started a very slow baby scratch, nothing at all really. but just kept going, and had the room on tenterhooks waiting to see where this was going. dropped into something banging, went for another 30 minutes. sasha at the forum 18 months ago. again not huge tunes but perfect set flow and track selection Quote

When I had barely turned 18 and started clubbing I went on a night to the Arches, Glasgow to se Carl Cox. First time I woulda seen big bad coxy (who' i desperately wanted to see) but I ended up spending the entire night with Chris Fortier in the play room. only about 10 people watching him but it was fuckin awesome. Never set eyes on Cox all night. Quote
mattus123 Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 well i tihnk it meas meant to be the 'best' (as in singular) id have to give it to pendulum's live set back at the horden pavillionjsut an awesome atmosphere, crowd was insane, quite easily one of the most intense crowds ive been in, death pits to EDM is bliss.other honourable mentions go to 'Aly & Fila' and Mr Van Buuren at ASOT 500 the other year.and knife party at futurewhile making this post, ive actually just come back from seeing tantrum desire at chinese laundry. He (yes i know they are a duo but only 1 was mixing) kept stopping the track then backspinning and playing the track from the beginning which was a MAJOY buzzkill. But apart from that it was a fkin insane set, so i feel they shoudl get a mention aswell Quote
andyman Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Carl Cox @ Billboard 2011Tiger & Woods @ The Mercat 2011My two standouts. Quote
