CharlyT Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 What do people have in mind when they want to become a DJ? After touring the world, I recently relocated in Indigenous regions of the NT to pursue my dream of using Music, Sporting activities & mentoring as tools to empower youth and give them opportunities, support and guidance..I started DJ classes and I have 11 students (Aboriginal/whites/TSI). When asked; some want to be DJ to impress girls, others want to express themselves through music and some others gave me an array of different reasons that left me amused or baffled. What is yours? Will you be willing to DJ free for a good cause? Hit me upCharly Templar Quote
andyman Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 I don't have an objective as such. For me, getting on the decks and playing tunes is a release and a great way to express myself musically seeing as I can't play an instrument. Quote
russell Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 Love partying and don't like other peoples tunes.... I just love music. Love collecting records and have been fortunate enough to do a bit of DJ'ing because of that. As for objectives.. Didn't have any before but now I probably do as I'd like to get some sort of gigs happening in Oz now that I'm hear. However, i'm probably more concerned about my own productions these days and getting them out than I am about DJ'ing. Live set is where it's (gonna be) at. Quote
eggssell Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 my objective when i first bought the kit was to "mix" my annual mixtapes that i give to the holmies usually around summertime. kind of done that by recording about one mix a year.since having them, i had delusions of grandeur of just playing at this local bar that has djs and cocktails on thrusdays; or get a job around newie on a sunday playing lounge at a cafe/bookstore/ bar. but never really got good enuff.new objective, to do a weekly radio show which at first will have minimal mixing, but going forward will be full mixed sets.but we'll see how long this objective lasts.... Scottie Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 To get the girls Nah, I started as I was beginning to understand EDM and it's subgenres, it was mainly a way for me to express what sort of music I listened to in my personal way, cause daw's + vst's are expensive Quote
Mitch Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 bought decks initially just due to love of music, wanted to try something different. that led to getting some club gigs. Not really doing consistent club gigs at the moment, but now focus is to start working on production and probably get back into clubs eventually (when work and uni lets me make time to do the things) Quote
GREMM1S Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 All the way and i 100% mean it, it honestly just feels like its meant to be now all i think about do whenever i have a free moment.Short term wise i want to secure more regular weekly gigs and moveInto the main rooms. Quote
DHB Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 Simply grew out of a passion for collecting records, and that is where it is at currently. I still collect a small amount of records on a monthly basis, even though I don't mix so much lately. It is a nice release from everyday stresses, even if it's only an hour or so out of the day, simply being involved and taken away with the music is key. Quote
JonnyB Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 to get all the bitches! and be a rockstarOn a serious note my goal as a producer/dj is to get to the point to when i play at a club the people that are there are there because they like my music and are there to hear me play it, at the moment they are just filled with your average club goers. even if i play in a small underground basement to 50 people for the rest of my life, if they are there for my music im happy Quote
OxyKon Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 For me, getting on the decks and playing tunes is a release and a great way to express myself musically seeing as I can't play an instrument. This is pretty much what it is for me aswell, I've already got a spot on an online radio show which I never thought I'd get, just submitted a demo to see what would happen and they offered me a weekly weekend spot, now there is even talk about gettin me in the clubs aswell, you never know what can happen Quote
russell Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 However, i'm probably more concerned about my own productions these days and getting them out than I am about DJ'ing. And touching on that, I actually achieved another milestone with one of my tracks coming out on a vinyl release soon. Quote
legunner Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 even if i play in a small underground basement to 50 people for the rest of my life, if they are there for my music im happy Quote
street Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 For the audience to be there for me, not for me to be there for the audience. Quote

dflux4 Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 To introduce others to new and different sounds.... So many people out there listen to the same carp day in day out, I want them to explore more of what music has to offer. Quote
lok204 Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Well right now my objective is to release my own productions on a label.I also just started a blog so my objective for that is to get 1,000 likes on facebook (care to help? http://www.facebook.com/DatPhatMusic) by the end of the year AND run events under the blog's name by the end of 2013. djrhysj Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 My goal was to be on an ivy flyer, DONE!Next is to get into the court yard, and then hektik fez benders Quote
wrxfiend Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 terminator x inspired me at the age of 7. Couldn't afford decks till i was about 20. Now I enjoy dropping phat hip hop for friends at parties and weddings. Production is now my main interest, after listening to awesome tunes for years I decided I know what makes a banger, I'm gonna giv it a go!that and chicks dig it! Quote
GREMM1S Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 Next step is move onto a regular spot at candys, slowly slowly Quote
