anditz Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 auto sync never sounds perfect. cdjs/vinyls all the way Quote
SourceRaver Posted June 7, 2012 Author Posted June 7, 2012 If anything, the best comparison is synch = wanking off. Instant gratification, but in the end, your just fucking yourself.Back on topic! Quote
lloydc Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 Sync has No pro's, if you do it you are not a DJ, you may as well be nightlifewrong on a number of levels... you seem to be forgetting it's about the music, and reading the crowd.grats if you can beatmatch two songs together using cds, but if they suck, then who is really the better DJ? (answer= sync guy)furthermore, richie hawtin syncs 4 things at once, you can't tell me he's 'nightlife'. Quote
Jaz Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 no lloydc, everything you said there would make you an entertainer not a DJ, and no he sounds like human nightlife to me Quote
andyman Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 I'd love for you to tell one of the founders of the Detroit Techno scene, and a major influence to EDM in general that he isn't a DJ.Nice logic you fucking gronk. Quote
Jaz Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 i would, straight to the sell out cunce face, he might as well put virtual DJ on with an autosync playlist and stand back and watch....what a fag lolololololololParis hilton is now a DJ because she could do what he does if you call that "DJing"this guy can obviously DJ, but instead of hooking up a DVS to decks and doing it legit, he sells out and uses sync....just sad Quote
SolDios Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 I used the phrase meter in traktor to help me learn, now I can beatmatch without it fine. It's good if you use it in a way to help you learn, rather than to do the work for you.As for sync, tried it once, got really bored. Not doing it again. Quote
lloydc Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 no lloydc, everything you said there would make you an entertainer not a DJ, and no he sounds like human nightlife to meso DJs don't entertain?human nightlife = human that plays music? Quote
SolDios Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 One thing though, I seriously don't see it as that big of a dealbeing able to beat match is shit all when it comes to making a good mix, there's all kinds of things like EQ'ing, timing, keys, phrasing. Sync doesn't mean any man and his dog can get up and be a super star dj, it still takes alot of practice and skill Quote
Jaz Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 lol i was about to rant then sol, you made it sound like Syncing takes "alot of practice and skill" in that last sentence...then i realized how i hope you meant itSync = watch for 1st beat of 16 bar phrase, press sync on 1st beat, mix done Quote
lloydc Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 i would, straight to the sell out cunce face, he might as well put virtual DJ on with an autosync playlist and stand back and watch....what a fag lolololololololParis hilton is now a DJ because she could do what he does if you call that "DJing"this guy can obviously DJ, but instead of hooking up a DVS to decks and doing it legit, he sells out and uses sync....just sad there are so many things wrong with this post, i don't know where to begin.when will you learn that what this is about is the music, and not the medium in which it is conveyed? you do realise that beat matching ≠DJing, yeah? Quote
SolDios Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 Just to be clear, I ment there's alot more to learn other than beat-matching, Even if they sync, there still gona sound like shit, as most people don't even know about phrasing, or bars and whatnot. Quote
Jaz Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 you do realise that beat matching ≠DJing, yeah?lol you just shut yourself down right there...yeh, and sync is no beatmatching, hence no DJ =D> =D> =D> =D> Quote
eggssell Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 yawn. a disc jockey is the term of "jockeying" from one record to the next. that is the true dj and always has been.any comments outside of that discounts mobile dj's work; radio dj's work and is straight out elitist.a harmonicly beat matching body tricking dj is no doubt awesome, but that isn't the only dj.a cdj is just a big ass controller even if you use cd's. i.e. it is a "controller" manipulating a digital file which was obtained from the media being a cd.back on topic.sync is like driving a car, period.some cowboy elitist choose to ride a horse and think they are king shit.NOTE: never used sync, and anyone with TT's and a dvs knows the sync button is greyed out anyway. but ive said it before i saw a superstar dj mixing perfectly as the crowd slowly fell asleep. so to me that was shit djing despite the manual beatmatching and harmonic mixing. but ive been to weddings where the dj is playing the crowd like a farking pied piper Quote
russell Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 furthermore, richie hawtin syncs 4 things at once, you can't tell me he's 'nightlife'.Richie Hawtin doesn't just sync tracks though. He's pretty much remixing on the fly and creating something new from a number of slices from various tracks. He even says that if you sync just to mix records you aint shit really. Quote

russell Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 . but ive said it before i saw a superstar dj mixing perfectly as the crowd slowly fell asleep. so to me that was shit djing despite the manual beatmatching and harmonic mixing. but ive been to weddings where the dj is playing the crowd like a farking pied piperThe crowd is all subjective though when it comes to things like weddings/club/whatever. Take that mad for it wedding crowd and stick them in a club with Ame or Dixon and they'd probably be bored out their tits. Whereas, stick me in a wedding crowd and I'd be bored off my tits. Regardless of DJ skills. Quote

russell Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 yeah for sure. but what about a crowd on the beach raring to tear it up because of the last dj, then superstar comes on and just cruises at boring speed. regardless of his dj skills.i guess my point was, beatmatching does not make a dj.You could also chalk that down to poor warm up skills of the previous DJ. Many times i've seen guys 'warming up' by playing some shit that's way too banging for the time of night and not suited to the guest DJ's style. That shit bugs me more than anything... whales need to learn how to warm up properly. Quote
lloydc Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 beatmatching does not make a dj.jaz might understand this concept a little better coming from someone else, like yourself.agree completely with what you're saying eggsalso, russel makes a good point about the warmup DJ Quote
Jaz Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 i never said that was all there was to a DJ, but if the DJ isnt beatmatching but just clapping his hands and getting the crowd going then presses sync to change tracks....then he is an entertainer, might as well be an MC Quote
Cupe Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 jaz make your fucking opinions without being a fuckwit Quote
