Cupe Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 So I just coined the phrase 'CD Scatters' for when you burn your mix to loads of CD's then hide them around town for randoms to find.I'm thinking of dropping my latest mix (which is almost 80mins, designed for burning) around random spots, with tags/links in the ID3.Wondering if anyone has ever done something like this before? andyman Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 As long as you put them in decent spots I can't see it doing any harm. Quote
eggssell Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 i remember that mob cementing usb sticks into holes in buildings but not cd drops.are you going to label it so its at least eye catching? else personally if i saw a cd somewhere my first thought wouldnt be to pick it up.. Quote
russell Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 are you going to label it so its at least eye catching? else personally if i saw a cd somewhere my first thought wouldnt be to pick it up..^ this. It def needs to be appealing to the eye first and foremost for anyone to even take notice. Quote
Cupe Posted June 7, 2012 Author Posted June 7, 2012 I was going to just write on it with texta and put like 'free dubstep' or somethingBut the printer we have can print on discs, but the top of the disc isn't blank =\ Quote

Cupe Posted June 7, 2012 Author Posted June 7, 2012 yea I cbf putting labels over the top and shitI'll see how well it prints over the top of the shit on the disc. it's basically all white except for the '700mb' and 'sony CD-R' shit Quote
Cupe Posted June 7, 2012 Author Posted June 7, 2012 What about if they were in cases with a label on the case saying FREE MIX and shit? And I just left stacks in CD stores? Or hid them in the Dubstep section amongst the other CD's lol Quote
andyman Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Swap them with beer coasters at the local bar.All the young whales will take them. Quote
GREMM1S Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Dont really see the point tbh, surely soundcloud/facey spamming would be more effective? Quote
Jaz Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 if i found a CD in the street i would think it was either faulty, broken, or scratched to the shithousei can only see this working if you leave them in places known EDM lovers go, festivals, DJ stores etc Quote
Cupe Posted June 7, 2012 Author Posted June 7, 2012 I'd feel a bit faggot hanging them directly to peopleI want the fun in finding it randomly then listening to it to see what it's aboutBut I'm not going to be just dropping them on the footpath.. Quote
AlexJ Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 i think it would be easy for whales just to destroy them without the listen.I think dropping them into music stores would be good, because people could pick them up (people already looking for music) take them to the counter to inquire and they wont be on their system.= Free mix Quote
Cupe Posted June 7, 2012 Author Posted June 7, 2012 or sit them in stacks near where cunts pick up fliers and shitor hand them to randoms at dubstep events Quote
russell Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 i like the idea tbh. i had considered doing this back home before I knew I was leaving. Although I was gonna do it with cassette's. I'm still aiming to to do this at some point but not with a mix. Gonna do it with some of my own tracks once i feel I have enough that are suitable (could be a while).Just slip them into places where whales place flyers for nights Quote
eggssell Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 What about if they were in cases with a label on the case saying FREE MIX and shit? And I just left stacks in CD stores? Or hid them in the Dubstep section amongst the other CD's loloh yeah i didnt think about the case. i thought you were just gonna leave some tdk or verbatim cds around.but yeah for sure, just tag them up with a phat sharpie and put FREE.and yeah coasters at pubs and cafes.if you have your details doing the record store drop might be a bit risky.or if you in sydney, at places like glue and GP where they have all the free mags drop a couple there Quote
legunner Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Take them into stores and ask if they will hand them out for free if i found a cd laying around i would just leave it there assuming it was rubbish Quote
Cupe Posted June 7, 2012 Author Posted June 7, 2012 even if it had a label on it saying 'this is free take it and listen to it' Quote
Addi Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 I reckon thats a mad idea. Definitely doing something like cd stores or events. At a club I was at recently it was an EP launch for this local DJ, and he had like hundreds of cd's with his mixtape on it (Ministry of sound style, 1 big mix but cut into 15 or so different tracks), and he got people on stage to dance and they got a cd, was throwing cd's into the crowd etc. Heaps of cd's ended up on the floor and ignored but heaps of people ended up leaving with them. Quote
legunner Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 even if it had a label on it saying 'this is free take it and listen to it'It would need to be in a decent cover kinda thing but i would still be suss that some dude hasn't put heaps disgusting porn on it or something lol. Quote
Cupe Posted June 7, 2012 Author Posted June 7, 2012 in fact i might even hide some on there encrypted Quote
