kevboy Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Right guys, for the last 10 years or so i have always promised myself to become a dj, not just a bedroom dj but a successful club dj. A few years back i did manage to get into a few clubs and play but for whatever reasons i sort of gave up on it. Now however my flame has been reignited and is buring hotter than it ever was. I mean its all i think about day in day out. I now have the means to buy some good equipment, which i have, pair of 800's and 600 mixer, just to get me started off. What i am going to do is post 1 mix each week for some feedback on how bad or good i am progressing. This will give me the drive to improve and hopefully put into use some of the tips you guys will give me I am going to practice at least 4 hours per day and more at weekends so it should be interesting to see how i progress. Jaz Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 sounds good man, the motivation and passion seems to be there Quote
kevboy Posted May 21, 2012 Author Posted May 21, 2012 i think a once a week vid is a good idea, it will keep me motivated and will be good to look back on to see how i have progressed myself. I know a bit of music theory and how everything should match up but putting it into practice again will be hard. I find its not like riding a bike, if you stop you do have to learn it again to an extent. Quote
Jaz Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 vids are hard though dude, if you post it on youtube they hate anything over 10 minutes long for some reason, and if its a 10 minute mix thats pretty shit, try and go half hour at leastThe Majority of us use Soundcloud around here Quote
OxyKon Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Yeah bro go with soundcloud aye, I post my radio sets there each week, providing you click the license to non commercial then it works out sweet, good to see you have do much dedication with getting into the clubs, keep at it, I'm sure every1 here will have some input to help you along Quote
Cupe Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 yea mangwith something like this everyone here will get behind you and give you heaps of feedback and encouragement =D> Quote

kevboy Posted May 21, 2012 Author Posted May 21, 2012 Thanks for the support guys My Genre is a mixture of everything really. I like a bit of tech house / psy trance but LOVE hard dance and hardstyle. I want to incorporate all of them into my sets.I will def look into soundcloud, i think i will still do vids too, i like the idea of have a sort of video diary of how i am progressing. I dont know about you guys but i like watching vids of other people mixing just to pick things up and hopefully mine will help others in future Quote

kevboy Posted May 21, 2012 Author Posted May 21, 2012 DO IT...one thing im lacking atm is being able to comfortably switch genres during a set...addicted to it ever since i saw Tomy smashing it at the family...if you find any good reads man drop the info in here for me yeah man? I will do man. I have it all in my head on how i want to do it but putting it out there is another thing, haha. I am just waiting on my mixer to arrive to get stuck in so been getting all the tunes i can in the mean time. I think for the genres i like its not too difficult to switch between them but for other styles i am not sure. What is your choice in genre? Quote
MelodyIlliterate Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 I'm very prog house feel good sortah stuff... but i respest all genres and am aware how mood lifting a change in genre and bpm can be so i really want to look into it...i dabble with a little rnb more Dubstep and i dont mind a lot of happy hardcore and harstyles Being able to switch between would be awesome... just havent gotten their yet Quote
Scottie Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 4 hours a day of practice? What else do you do all day hahaSeriously though, good luck with everything, and there's usually hardly anyone streaming on weekdays if you want to go live. Quote
legunner Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Make a short video explaining how you have made the mix etc how you're progressing and also post your mix on soundcloud or mixcloud.Next z2h watch out sol Quote
kevboy Posted May 21, 2012 Author Posted May 21, 2012 Yeah that sounds like a plan crywolf. The moment i receive my mixer i will get stuck in I work during the week scottie otherwise i would be at it all day everyday. oh and yeah i will be interested in streaming during the week, the more feedback the better I am looking forward to kicking this off now Quote
lloydc Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 nice one mate, i'm keen to hear about your progress and also to have a listen to your mixes.4 hours is a lot of practice every day.... for what it's worth, you should aim to practice for short periods of time, but frequently. Quote
GREMM1S Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 I dont think time or frequency really matters that much, mixing is mixing you keep doing it you get better.Focus on things like where you mix songs in and out, how different tracks sound together or harmonic mixing if you go down that path. Quote
