So free shipping is a bonus.New is preferred cause im a bit odd like that but will consider all things. Been looking around, so far i been looking at KRK RP6 G2's for $589 (little less on student discount) free shipping. But i would love some suggestions from you guys.cheers. Jaz
For that budget your best bets are the KRK's or behringer, after that the other brands are past your budget I've got the 2031A's and love them, never missed a beat from smashing them at the limit DJing threw them, to sitting on my desk casually producing, picked them up for $230 posted used, but new I think they are around $500....I think

Hobberz
Just my 2 cents:Rokits or Behringer are the way to go. You wont be disappointed with either of those

foedragon1
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TRUTH-B2031A ... 874wt_1396my mate has these, they are very nice for the price point.
Lightsounds
another alternative that stacks up well compared to the Rokits (and cheaper) are the New Gemini Sr series. I was pleasantly surprised when they arrived in store and tested them against the Rokit 5's.Either way no matter which speakers you decide on purchasing make sure you listen to them yourself. Take a cd of some tracks that you know well along to the store and compare as many as you can in your price point. The SR5's are below if you want to have a lookhttp://www.lightsounds.com.au/gemini_5_active_studio_reference_monitor_8359_prd1.htm
Manil
why are you buying monitors if you are buying cheap? Cheap monitors might as well be a stereo HI/FI
