mattus123 Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 hey heyim doign a gig with a mate and he's gonna use his laptop all set up with traktori was originally planning on using CDs cause thast what im used to.. but now im ithnking i might just put the tracks on a couple of USBs and play the night through traktorjust wanted to know what the learning curve of it is? like would i be able to pick it up and be able to get into the mixing straight away, im worried if i only bring USBs then im forced to use traktor and hten if i cant learn the software quick/well enough ill do a shit set Quote
Hobberz Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Traktor does take a little to learn and get used to.What set-up will you have? Quote
mattus123 Posted April 25, 2012 Author Posted April 25, 2012 Not 100% sure, the venue site says CDJs and mixerim going to assume CDJ1000s and DJM800cdjs is sweet cause i have them.. the mixer i havent used a 4 chanel mixer, but that shouldnt be a problem Quote
Hobberz Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Do you know if he is using Traktor via USB plugged into his laptop or is he using timecode cd's? Quote
AlexJ Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Why not take both? Bring you cds and do it like a normal set. Whack some songgs onto USB and learn if you like. You loose nothing having the USB's and learning something new. If you dont think its working out, just revert to cds. Quote
mattus123 Posted April 25, 2012 Author Posted April 25, 2012 usb into the laptopi wanna avoid bringing CDs if i can, cause we r gonan kick on afterwards and i dont wanan lug my cd wallet around Quote
Hobberz Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Looks like you will just have to use Traktor. Can you get him around to you're house for a jam before the gig so you can get the feel for it? Quote

If the club has 900's/2000's than why not let him play off Traktor and you take 2 UBS sticks and plug them into the decks and you can play off USB sticks. Quote

GREMM1S Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Dont have to but highly recommended, lots quicker loading, playlists, instant bpm and waveform plus without doing it i found some files would freeze the player Quote
Hobberz Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 I agree, for the extra few minutes running you're tracks through rekordbox I think its worth it. Plus being free software, there is no real reason not to use it IMO. Quote
russell Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 If your just using traktor with timecode CD's there's nothing to get used to in traktor really. Drag tune from playlist (usb drive) to the free deck in traktor. Play tune as you would normally on CDJ. repeat for duration of set..... Quote
Mitch Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 I agree its better to do it, was just an option if he didn't want to spend a bunch of extra time on it.By the time i run my songs through platinum notes, MIK, iTunes then recordbox it takes a while on my computer OK Quote

Gandy experienced it as well when he was in Cairns having a spin on my set up. Quote
Gandy Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 yeah it catches you if you're not expecting it Quote
mattus123 Posted April 25, 2012 Author Posted April 25, 2012 am i able to play my songs straight from USB or do i have to copy onto his laptop? cause i dont really wanna copy all my tracks onto his laptop and jsut give him a shit tonne of free tracks Quote

There is a usb slot on the top of the deck, just insert usb and press the usb button and it will load all you're playlists up for you to browse through. Quote
mattus123 Posted April 25, 2012 Author Posted April 25, 2012 nah i know that about the 900/2000s. i think the decks will be CDJ1000s though, which is why he is bringing his laptop and gonna use traktor Quote
Hobberz Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Well you only really have two options;Put tracks on his laptop and use TraktorOr take cds and play themI would find out exactly what decks they are because like I said before, you're friend cant connect his traktor to 1000s via usb. So you both may be forced to use cds on the night. Quote
Vaughn Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Most logical solution i think is to just call venue and ask and work from there Quote
AlexJ Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Most logical solution i think is to just call venue and ask and work from thereBut seriously the man is right. Also how you getting to gig? If your driving leave cds in car. If public transport then i see the problem Quote
Vaughn Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Exactly, Your mate has to carry a lappy anyways. Put cd's in his car or where he is chucking his cd's Quote
