SolDios Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Hey guys, So whenever im playing a gig for older people (35+ yo's) I never seem to be taken seriously, they always seem to think Im just some kid with fancy equipment, not a business owner. They ALWAYS try and get behind the booth to talk to me, and have a very condescending tone of voice.I always make sure to dress appropriately, be professional, have business cards blablabla. But they still never take me seriously.Any advice? OxyKon Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Well dude, it doesn't really help your case that you are technically still a kid, your always gonna be treated that way by elders, no matter where you go in lifeThe only thing I can suggest is just keep doing what your doing, stay professional, and 1 day things will look up for you Quote
andyman Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 If there's seccies at the gigs, say to them that no one is go behind the booth.Use your authority, and put your foot down. Also, this may sound condescending, but make sure you sure you are using proper grammar, etc with your correspondence. And finally, if your prices are low, don't be afraid to jack them up a bit. The higher the price, the more seriously people are going to take you. Quote
FabDJ Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Dont seem to have that problemWhen you have a crim face and an old ct. people are terrified of you and keep away. Quote

awesome88 Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 tbh, it's something you're going to have to deal with until you get a bit older.for example, when I was about 20 and just finished uni, I was in a more senior job than most people my age were for whatever reason. I had the same issue, in that I felt like I wasn't being taken seriously a lot of the time despite me knowing what I was doing. It used to shit me the same way it's shitting you.fast forward 4 years, and i'm in a different role with another company, and had someone in the same role I was in at the same age come and see me. Sub-conciously, I was thinking " what do you know.... you're a kid". Then I caught myself thinking it and remembered when it was me.point of the story is: people can't help it, and the only way to change it is to wait until you are a bit older. Use it as a chance to practice dealing with people and when you're older remember what it was like for you when you see someone up and coming. Quote
