AUSTRALIAN DJ FORUMS

This is what's also wrong with the music industry....

In 2012 you can pay someone to make a track for you, pay someone to buy it enough times for you on different accounts so it enters the beatport top100 and pay someone to get you loads of soundcloud plays so it looks popular. Great times of quality music we live in...

I was aware of ghost writing and paying for soundcloud plays/comments, which boosts your result in search results therefore more people listen etc.

Haven't heard many people paying for people to do beatport purchases though.

It's getting crazy the lengths people go to, so they get exposure, even if it means not using their own work, and paying for 'popularity', undermining the real talent out there

this is how the achual music industry works

money is behind every major artist. just listen to their music, it fucking SUCKS BALLS

why is it so popular? they bought their way to the top

yep^

its all marketing, look at tiesto, he is crap, im sorry but he is just shit, but when he was unknown he was labelled as the best DJ in the world, after about a year of having the title every dumbass believed it and not he is huge

Look at these faggots 1 Direction, labeled as the biggest boy band ever, now they are huge with 11 year olds screaming over them, same apply's with beiber

wat? tiesto is epic at what he does. I get what you're saying but bad example

more like katy perry is a perfect example. she can't fucking sing for shit

its just the new version of payola.

in regards to bieber and one direction, i think they are a diff beast of commercialisation though. bieber got his following from youtube from my understanding. so hence was already famous by the time the record label cashed in.

same with one direction (who i had never heard of until i read it in the news this week. when i read boy band i thought they were some reject group from the 90s boy band era who wasnt so famous, and i was wondering what all the frenzy was about). anyways, the paper said they were xfactor contestants? so i assume they too developed a fan base before the record labels ate them up.

hence they could sell records on their own accord without any record label push.

i know they hated on because people dont like their type of music, but they are not the only ones to do this.

Odd future were hella famous from youtube and hence were able to tell most labels to fark off and instead carve out their own distribution deal. but in essence were no diff than bieber except for choosing not to sign.

unlike say spice girls or sophie monks group, who were manufactured by a label and then promoted, which i guess is what you getting at.

the monkeys are fakes, all their material was written for them. well all their early stuff anyway

but if they sang it that doesnt make them fake does it? unless of course they claimed to have written it.

that would be like saying michael jackson was fake. he only started writing lyrics very late on, before that he was nothing more than a singer. and even with lyrics i am sure it was the rarity rather than the norm.

same with frank sinatra. (hehe pasted straight from one of my older posts).

EDIT: but on the other hand the monkeys were one of the first label created bands i believe, i.e. with complete back stories and so on

i believe playing an instrument, being a songwriter, writing music, being an artist

all these things are separate professions and are all combined for a 'band' to operate

sometimes you have someone who sings and writes their own music. they're called a singer-songwriter

the monkees were musicians, actors and performers

the question of who wrote their shit doesn't even come into play here if you ask me (unless they made a claim that they DID write their own shit, and just lied about it)

Take the mass market out of this for a minute, those guys that become global 'superstars' are simply in it for the fame rather than for the love of your scene and the love of contributing to it. We are into a scene that people should be wanting to achieve relative success from their own merit. Have a bit of pride in what they are trying to do and hope it takes off. No-one respects people who achieve success in this manner in the electronic community.
