Mitch Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 A guy I know uploaded a bootleg to soundcloud 8 months ago, which has turned out to be pretty successful: http://soundcloud.com/dj-vitz/lolas-theme-vitz-2011-bootlegLook what he found on beatport today:http://www.beatport.com/track/lolas-boo ... ix/3255001Someone called "miami mashups" has stolen his track and uploaded it as their own, and is now charting at 86 on the electro charts.Think he is going to try contact beatport about it, but really this shouldn't be happening, an up and coming DJ/Producer from regional vic/nsw, and people are game enough to steal his stuff and claim it as their ownEDIT: up to 85 on the electro chart now Quote
Gandy Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 thats disgusting, i hope beatport seriously look into this Quote
eggssell Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 hold on if its a booty and no one has asked for releases, im assuming beatport would have to take it down anyways. let alone the fact it wasn't theirs. (damn thief will probably claim, listen closely i added a bass drum every eight beat hence it is a mashup...) Quote
russell Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 seen this happen to a few people. sucks balls. Hopefully your mate gets it sorted...Also I hope he is naming and shaming them on any available social media outlet..... Has to be done. Quote
mattus123 Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 thats disgustingits really all that can be said about thisi cant believe someone would have the nerve to actually do a direct copy like that.the sad part is that this is probably not the first time it has happened.you plagarise work at uni, and u can be banned from attending any uni within australiathese guys should refused the right to play at any club or have any of their songs sold on any websiteedit: how did ur mate catch these guys out, was it just pure luck? Quote
Mitch Posted April 12, 2012 Author Posted April 12, 2012 edit: how did ur mate catch these guys out, was it just pure luck?Browsing the electro top 100 for tracks to buy, nek minute nearly buys own track Quote
Hobberz Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 My understanding was its not illegal to make mashups/bootlegs, but if you profit from them you need the original artist's permission. I wonder if miami mashups is DJ RA1N? Quote
mattus123 Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 hobberz, the issue isnt that miami mashups used mitch's mates track for a mashupits that miami mashup took mitch's mates track and uploaded it to beatport as their own Quote

What I'm saying is they have stolen some dude's mashup which they are now profiting from. If they have stolen it from mitch's mate than I can nearly bet my kids that "Miami Mashups" haven't got permission from the original artist to sell a remake of their original. So that would mean they have done the wrong thing twice with this one track. Quote
LabRat Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Fuck this industry! I have my ISRC on my tracks so if anything like that happens I got half a chance Quote
