Vaughn
Hey man your best bet is going on youtube and looking up ellaskins that man can teach you allot just watch his tutorials on beat matching Have fun with it dude Edit: Song selection you probably best off mixing stuff you personally like so you can get into it i guess
andyman
^^^As Vaughn said, mix songs that you like and you're familiar with. When learning to beatmatch, songs with easy intro's and outro's are your best bet.Tracks like Benny Benassi - Satisfaction are easy ways to get started. Mitch
^both of above are on the money. My tips:-mix a style you are familiar with/enjoy, and something that has a solid kick-snare intro/outro-loading the same song onto both decks is an easy way to begin learning how to beatmatch-Ellaskins has good vids-PRACTICE - it takes time to get skills down pat-check out the learn to dj vids by Sarah main (sticky in the beginner section)Hope this helps

andyman
Really Jaz?I would have thought something a bit more simple would be better for a beginner.
eggssell
hey tommo. most def the sarah main ones in the sticky are really good.ellaskins too but you need to go for the really earlier ones when he goes thru the theory of beatmatching.andy and mitch got good nuggets of info in their posts above.another thang with songs, start with ones all the same bpm. i know you may say but that dont help with beatmatching? but what it does help you practice is releasing (or pressing play) at the right time, and helps you practice dropping at the right beat and in phrase. then you can focus on the other parts of the transition like eqing in/ out
Jaz
Really Jaz?I would have thought something a bit more simple would be better for a beginner. Why not? Someone already mentioned ellaskins, it's not like it could be bad for himThat's like saying don't watch NRL to a budding Footy player, he would be better off watching C grade.... DHB
everyone has got the mixing tips pretty well coveredas for song selection, that kind of come with practisethe more you mix, the better you will be able to work out what mixes well with whatPretty much this, don't look to others to guide you on song selection. That really comes down to the style that suits you. If you gave us an indication on what you like, then suggestions would be more fitted.I always thought the mixing two of the same song worked well, especially when you speed up one track and trying to get them matched up.Best of luck! russell
Pretty much this, don't look to others to guide you on song selection. That really comes down to the style that suits you.Not only that.. the best bit about DJ'ing isn't the actual mixing. It's the digging to find new sounds and artists that you want/need to have in your collection. Of course if you know what you like and the kind of thing you after then people can provide artists they think you can check out but for the most part it should be down to the individual to seek out the sounds. That is after all why anyone would want to start DJ'ing surely... for the love of the music?
tommojones
Im really in to house and electro if any one has any suggestions I would be very thankful.

AlexJ
Although its also useful to remember that your never gunna always get things right. Your gunna make a sheetload of mistakes. and if your not. then your doing things wrong. Even the pros have their spills on stage. Trial and error. You'd be surprised what you can make work when you throw in an effect or stop the track completely at the right moment and start a new one. Doesnt sound sane, but it is.As is mentioned above, really find stuff you like, dont care so much about genre, because you might find a song that you really like that has been remixed in a handful of genres and it just sounds fantastic no matter the genre.
