1st gig

Ok well a few days ago an old friend of mine sent me a message asking me to dj her party, i was going to say no but I've got ur help so i can do it so i said yes lol now I'm freaking out. So pretty much it will all be mainstream music top 40 kinda stuff so ill get downloading that. My plan is to get about 100 songs and put them in a playlist then just play any requests from the rest of my library if i recon it will work. This will consist of originals or remixes that have longer intros and outros that are all 128bpm. The gig is a friends 16th at a local hall so any advise would be more than helpful! So keen to do my 1st gig but hell scared. I will be using streets 8" DB Opera speakers and his lights. One of her questions was about blacklights, i looked them up on djwarehouse and found the only ones were hire for $20 each but they only work for 2m squared and i told her this but if any of you have any more info about them too that would be great! x

That's heaps good hoddi, don't be nervous about party's they are easy, they don't know what mixing is and all you have to play is commercial

Yeh all you need is a list of the top 40 for the last few years, at house parties you can EASILY get away with just waiting to the last 4 beats of the song, and fading into the first 4 beats of a song without beat matching or anything.

In all honesty, that's what I did for the first year of my career, and everyone had a blast!

Do you mean blacklights? As in UV lights. What you need are 'UV canons'. Basically a massive UV lamp in a box. A lot of companies hire them in Perth so just google the name and your location. You can also get UV batons, much like a couple of fluro tubes in a holder but UV (probably the ones you already mentioned).

That's where I used to struggle doing mobile gigs.

that so cool hoddi!!!!! Yeh friends house parties (albeit a hall) are always best, so you should feel relaxed. i think sol pretty much got the tips covered, he the man in the under 18 party scene.

Nah (andy)man, the struggle with mobile gigs is getting on the mic and not sounding like a tool

I never used a mic when I did mobile gigs, I found having the right cheesy songs was the hardest part. I'm not into the top40 music, and trying to keep up with the charts in music you don't necessarily like is hard, but it's what you have to play sometimes when your doing those kind of gigs
