anditz Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 So I was at a gig watching one of my friends play. He was playing hip hop so I was paying particular attention seeing as I've just started playing it. He mixed like 100 songs into an hour set it was ridiculous to see him mixing that fast. And it sounded cool - very much like girltalk mashup style except it was all live. He turned and empty dancefloor into a full one by the end. The thing that enabled him to mix so quickly is that he has like 20 hip hop/rnb cds that are all beatlocked to 100bpm. I say this is a great idea if it enables you to mix so well - like he isn't just using beat lock because he is noob but because it's allowing him to open up another avenue within his mixing.Opinions? Also - does anyone know of software I can use to lock in tempos to a set bpm other than virtual dj which makes you re record the song (have to listen to the whole song before it finishes) Quote
anditz Posted February 22, 2012 Author Posted February 22, 2012 beatlock = synchronised for those who didnt know Quote
lloydc Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 what software was he using? use ableton or something to re-warp the song, otherwise traktor can sync bpm to the trak it's currently playing. Quote
anditz Posted February 22, 2012 Author Posted February 22, 2012 yeah he told me and i forgot, thought you guys would know. Quote
MelodyIlliterate Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 sounds sick... was it just :Chorus - verse - next song - chorus - verse- next song? Quote
anditz Posted February 22, 2012 Author Posted February 22, 2012 yeah pretty much melody with a bit of scratch in between Quote
MelodyIlliterate Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 record any? would be interesting to get some tips from it Quote
eggssell Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 man would be hard to get your groove on, you'll be doing running man then 30 seconds later "switch" anyways sorrry man wouldnt have a clue.reminds me though of that holy grail mixtape that was only distributed around cali of dr dre mixing 50(?) songs in an hour, but that was straight vinyl and turntables. anditz Posted February 22, 2012 Author Posted February 22, 2012 Ok found out the program is called Mixmeister Quote
andyman Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Ok found out the program is called MixmeisterI make my shit in that cause I'm currently deckless.Good fun. Quote
SourceRaver Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Re-recording tracks at a set BPM sounds like a pain. Traktor will calculate the BPM and if its slightly off you can beatgrid a track to nail the BPM exactly. If all your tracks are analysed correctly, then its just a matter of hitting the sync button and away you go. Probably one of the few ways to play so many tracks in such a short time. No need to worry about beatmatching, just focussing on what part of the track you want to play. Of course you can just set up a cue point on each track to make this a lot easier. Quote
fackedd Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 I make my bootlegs and mashups with mixmeister. It's a good program for noobs, real easy to use. Quote
Mitch Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 I think platinum notes has some sort of ability to alter bpm when analyzing. Not 100% sure though, I'll have to check when I'm on the computer Quote
MelodyIlliterate Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 @fackedgood for learning basics to go onto using a more complex program or a dead end? Quote
CapFive Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 this program is totally different to the normal mixing programs like VDJ or traktor, its purely for what we call sequence mixing, or premixing, this program allows you do it on the fly, you can cue, you can ajust on the fly, its all done before the song is played (thus the sequence part in the name)weather or not it can actually re-record the songs in the desired BPM, im not sure, it would be awesome if it could, this is a really good idea for a feature can someone confirm this? ill_spector Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 end of the day, who cares,if it sounds good, fills dancefloor > vinyl elitist Quote
MelodyIlliterate Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 How does it set you back... sorry would check it out but im at work Quote
anditz Posted February 24, 2012 Author Posted February 24, 2012 I'm going to try this out today, I'll make a post later when I'm done Quote
anditz Posted February 24, 2012 Author Posted February 24, 2012 OK so it didn't go too well, i figured out how to remap the bpms but it was consistent from one song to the next. Perhaps i'm using a different version to my friend. I'll keep ya'll posted. Quote
GREMM1S Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Just changing the bpm in ableton, cubase or even acid etc and them exporting would be fairly quickt Quote
