djg
Hey guys, the only thing i need to finish my set up is lighting... i have budgeted for around 1000 to 1500 bucks. most my gigs are 18ths, 21sts, 50ths you know the big bdays, some weddings and pub gigs. I have a smoke machine and im looking for probs a laser a moonflower effect and maybe something that throws some light like the american dj tri phase.... actually heeeaaaps keen on the quad phase, but cant get it? pretty happy to hear any suggestions within the price range tho thanks! Lurk6r
this is what i got.http://www.djcity.com.au/lighting/laser ... y-dmx/2177 -> $200http://www.djcity.com.au/lighting/led-l ... fect-/1534 -> $200Those 2 + smoke machine look surprisingly good and will pull off most small parties. You could also consider 1 laser and two scanners but obviously that would be more expensive. You should look at getting a set of led par's because effect lights generally don't create enough ambient lighting. Also for weddings you may need to create a calmer atmosphere. So lets say around $400-500 for 4 good quality flat pack lights.Youl need a truss stand or 2 T stands depending on how many lights you have. eg http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Light-Truss- ... 446wt_1144 Also depending on how much the lights are going to weight you may not want to go with the cheap way out on this. $80-150I'd stay away from strobe lights, or get a $50 ebay cheapie because half the time there WILL be somebody who epileptic. SolDios
Personally, im saving for one of these.http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Green-Red-Ye ... 3366f661d5
Lurk6r
Almost forgot, unless you can get it for alooooooooooooooooooooooot cheaper somewhere else, try to get your gear from a reputable store with a clear return/refund/warranty policy. When my first laser died from dj city they replaced it and said they break frequently and I should upgrade. I said meh whatever, it broke after 2 hours use and they said I can either return it and get credit for upgrading or they can send it out to be repaired. But no cash on the spot. Im happy with my new laser, but thinking back its kinda dodgy if that they wont allow simple refunds without jumping through a nutload of hoops. Not sure where you live but theres a guy in buy/sell with a decent albeit slightly outdated lighting setup for $250. Lurk6r
Keep in mind that with a smoke machine you don't need to spam many lights, ideally make sure to many lights don't cross over or it will look messy. Heres what my laser and led ball look like.
FabDJ
Reluctant to use lighting much nowdays.Takes forever to set up and pubs always dim lights so your effects are washed out to a degree. The AC sucks out your smoke and some dont allow smoke.Just a couple of cans and a chaser is all you get, if I'm in the mood.
