Zack Kemp is a Dubstep producer from Northampton, UK, known to the music world as Trolley Snatcha. Since his break through debut release “The Future” on Caspa’s Dub Police in 2009, this young 24 year old producer has risen through the ranks to become one of the most talked about names in UK bass music.

Trolley Snatcha currently releases on Submerged Music, a large independent dubstep record label that is also home to Dubpolice, Subsoldiers and Storming Productions. Since his debut, Trolley Snatcha has continually showcased a steady flow of successful original productions as well as a handful of remixes for the likes of Dreadzone, Caspa and Chase & Status – taking on ‘Blind Faith’ ensured his name had a place on everyone’s lips. His subsequent releases for the label, the powerhouse ‘Circle K / We Rock the Forest’ single and the four track ‘One Trick Pony’ EP, introduced a deeper side to his sound building an even greater demand for his sound. February is Trolley Snatcha month as he drops Subtext, his hotly anticipated five track EP.

Teknoscape Contributor, Miranda Raffaele, had the great privilege of discussing bass music and the dubstep scene with the talented producer himself.

First off, can you tell us how you came up with the name Trolley Snatcha?

It’s a long story involving my friends little brother and his addiction of stealing supermarket trolleys.

How long have you been producing now and how did you get into it?

It was a natural progression starting from picking up a guitar at 13. I’ve always been fascinated by the recording process and discovering software synths, samples etc was just the next stepping stone.

Who are your major influences?

I don’t really have any influences to name as far as other producers. It’s more of a massive mesh of stuff that drives me to write music

Are there any producers or artists you want to collaborate with?

Yeah there’s loads. I genuinely think deciding who to actually work with is the harder question.

Tell us a bit about your new upcoming EP “Subtext”?

It’s basically the first project that I sat down & said ‘Right, I’m going to write an EP. Where do I want to take it?’ It basically sums up everything I have been doing the past year.

How do you feel about the ever diversifying Dubstep scene in the UK and its different subgenres?

I think diversity is the best word in the music industry but unfortunately the need to subgenre things to make them feel more exclusive is going against the whole reason we write this music in the first place.

Where do you see Dubstep going in the future?

As long as there are still people writing good music I can see it doing well for years to come.

What has been your greatest achievement so far in your music career?

I’ve never really thought about this to be fair. I try to stay as humble as possible. Maybe playing one of the major festivals in 2011 that I remembered going to as a kid.

In your opinion, what are the hottest 5 tracks out on the market at the moment?

Zapp & Roger – Computer Love

Leaf Dog – Some People Say

Trolley Snatcha – Make my Whole World

Holly Cook – Milk & Honey

Haze – Can You Feel Me

The industry and your fans are expecting Subtext to be a killer EP. What else can we expect from Trolley Snatcha in 2012 and beyond?

I’m looking to put out a good amount of music this year. Expect collaborations and remixes from the unexpected

Bigup!
