SolDios
Hey guys, im in the market for some basic turntables. I know I should get the direct drive ones but that's about it.The main one's I've been looking at are the pioneer 3500's as I don't want to spend too much money on this, it's really just something to get me acquainted with vinyl, and act as a backup set-up.I've already got traktor scratch pro with the time code records, so all I need is some tables.Any recommendations? (2nd hand is preferable for low prices)
SolDios
Are these any good? I really have no ideahttp://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-x-STANTON- ... 543wt_1037
ill_spector
t80's are decent ive heard, try snap a set of st150's/srt8 150 they seem to be best bang for buck
Gandy
sol, everytime you say "you dont want to spend too much money on this" you end up cheaping out and regretting it.all i can say is the st150s are top notch and only 600 a pop, spend some time saving up for those and you will keep them for the next 10-20 years no joke

Mitch
officially derailed.but i agree, either buy good upfront or hold out and stick with cdj's til later down the track
SolDios
One of my mate's dj's with serato scratch, il go over his and get a bit of a feel for it before I make up my mind.Edit: Yeh your right gandy, my main reason for saying that was that im not going to get "Too" into it, tbh it's more just something to screw around with than a backup now that I think about it.z2h will be filmed when my cdj comes back from repairI've been working on my stuff for a while, re-vamping the whole show. SolDios
Wouldn't second hand technic's in good nick be an option?
SolDios
Oh, if im going to spend $600 on tt'sWhy don't I just get thesehttps://www.storedj.com.au/products/NUM-V7Sure there not 12' platters, but they would be excellent!
Gandy
buying a tt to play vinyl is different than buying a tt to play digital songs via timecode. You already have large platter cdjs, there would be no point in you getting a controller 7" tt or timecoded vinyl setup when you have your cdjs. SolDios
^ Makes sense, so is it better for me to get Stanton's or Technics? I know all the Technics must be getting pretty old by now.
Gandy
what vinyl do you own sol, and that will answer your question
SolDios
I was just intending to use my time code records.but including my dads collection, probably about 200 albums and 200 singles. (Most of them classic rock)
andyman
I think you should invest your time and effort into practicing on your CDJ's dude.Having all the DJ things doesn't make you a better DJ, it's a passion for the music and the "want to learn" attitude that will benefit you in the long run.As for using them as a backup setup, you'll rarely use them and you have your BCD should anything go wrong. russell
I know all the Technics must be getting pretty old by now.Makes no difference. Technics will last forever if they are looked after. I was just intending to use my time code records.but including my dads collection, probably about 200 albums and 200 singles. (Most of them classic rock)I'm guessing from this that it's not your intention to really be playing your dad's old records so I don't understand why you want TT's. It'd only be worth it if you inteneded building up a vinyl collection to play.
SourceRaver
Just keep an eye out for some good deals on second hand tts. Purist in me says Technics but the practical side screams 150s. One you've carried a couple of tts around for a bit you'll quickly decide not to use them at gigs and opt for the CDJs instead.
SolDios
There mainly just for a backup system, and to get me partially acquainted with all 3 area's of our medium.Edit: Yeh I guess your right andy, il look into this once I have mastered cdj's, like you said, I can always borrow the bdc3000 off my mate.Il deffs keep an eye on turntables though, just in case an amazing deal comes up. eggssell
not sure if they much of a backup (as per source not exactly the easiest to take around). but i def think you should try em out though, you may find you like it and switch to using them! or you may continue to use cdj's on gigs and end up having them at home when you want to get some wigga wigga on. you never know if you never never go.and hopefully it will make you stop posting "for a club you should use cdj's, clubs dont use turntables"

russell
who?
russell
just googled them and on their website they only have a USB table for converting your files to digital so I'd say no they don't make good TT's.EDIT: this opinionis based on the fact thats only table is marketed as a converter. i don't care if it say's it's good for DJ's....... No self respecting turntable would be branded a 'vinyl to itunes' converter.
russell
Just noticed they announced anew model, AT-LP1240-USB , on the 6th Feb. There's an article that actually gives some spec however they are $530 each so i'm sure you could get something better for that money.http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/blog/2 ... -turntable
wazza
i don't care if it say's it's good for DJ's....... No self respecting turntable would be branded a 'vinyl to itunes' converter. I wouldn't say that.. the Numark ttx1 USB is a good tt for d.jing and has USB output..The audio technica lp 1240 look like a OEM turntable ..same as a Stanton st 150 & look like my spear AA hdt 45..the Audio technica lp 1240 has the same body, the same tonearm , same platter ,and motor as my AA hdt 45s...I like mixing on the AA hdt 45 better than my old 1200... legunner
I had technics and sold them within half a year. Don't get me wrong they are great turntables BUT if you use cdjs why would you bother? unless you have money to blow in that case don't bother.Become a master of cdjs most clubs don't have vinyls unless requested. If you have heaps of money to spend then get tech1200s
