dflux4 Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 http://www.inthemix.com.au/news/aust/52 ... ign=10281-[iTM%20Weekly]%20Avicii,%20Aphex%20Twin,%20Heatwave,%20Swedish%20House%20Mafia#With Tank one of the casualties of 2011, there’s been a lot of talk in recent months about the need for more custom-built clubs in Sydney. Well, it looks like we might be about to get our wish…but in a perhaps unexpected corner of the city. This week inthemix was told that a new superclub with a 1,200-person capacity is set to open in The Star (you might remember it before the overhaul as Star City Casino). The news is backed up by the Careers page of the Star’s website, which promises “there will be an exciting new nightclub which will open late this year.” The spiel also adds that “the completed property is set to become a shining light in Sydney’s night scene.” The Star confirmed to inthemix that an Events Centre catering for up to 4,000 people was going to open up in 2012.Of course, there are plenty of variables when you put the words “superclub” and “casino” together. Clubs at Star City have certainly had a colourful history, with none other than infamous stockbroker Rene Rivkin setting up shop there from 1997 with the Cave nightclub. In recent years, Vegas has gone all out to get the mix right, with the likes of Marquee, XS and Encore Beach Club bringing dance music to the high-rollers. Maybe Sydney’s following that trend? We’ll keep you updated on developments. Quote
Mitch Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 interesting read, even though it doesn't affect me as i live nowhere near syd. Will have to wait and see how this pans out Quote
OxyKon Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 you eastern staters have got all the spots lol Quote
eggssell Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 haha cave. i use to hit cave here and there. nice venue, two rooms lounge room with small dancefloor and even a small stage for those that like the podium dancing. and the main room, which had a risen area at the back and along sides for more podium dancing. only thing i hated was promoters wanted no jeans and would bust balls about shoes. and my motto is no chucks then not worth going into. even though i dont always wear chucks, out of principle i boycott anywhere that doesn't allow it.but they had the legendary dj moto, so that drew the crowds. eggssell Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 i think my beef with shoes and door beehatches is a lot of them dont even look or dont even care (know). i went to a club once where it was superstrict. and the dude stopped me and said what shoes you got on, and i said hey man they leather just brown not black (thinking he thought they werent flash shoes). and without even looking he said nah man what brand. i said ummm diesel, and he was like cool you're in. what the!!!! then a mate later gets rejected for having leather campers which cost double the diesels because the thugg probably had never heard of campers!and then on the flipside i see people getting turned away for runners or sports shoes at ivy on a busy friday night, and then i get in with a ratty pair of black chucks. why, because i have mainly grrls in my group.so anywhere where shoes matter can fark off in my opinion. thats why sounds on sunday @ greenwood and fat@ gas were the ish. all comers welcome, wearing as flash or as little or as bogan as you like. crundyy Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 let me know next time you goto greenwood on sunday thats kinda round my neck of da woodz Quote
eggssell Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 let me know next time you goto greenwood on sunday thats kinda round my neck of da woodzummm sounds on sunday died years ago. i think some of the mob that promoted it moved onto fuzzy or whoever do field day. i thinks..they occassionally get together to do a sounds garden party at chinese laundry, but yeah SOS @ greenwood is dead.it use to be the best. i remember going up to manly, have a bit of a swim, grab a kebab, then go to greenwood to sink beers in the sun & get my groove on; with some nice toonz and some nice lookers. all while still in my boardies. crundyy Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 fuck man, wish i was your age, shit sounds so much better back then :C Quote
eggssell Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 nah man the scene now is just as buzzed. i dont want to be one of those oldies like in human traffic crapping on about how good it used to be! just saying clubs that are nice and open and welcome, and all about the music and the dancing and vibing gets a thumbs up from me Quote
russell Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 just saying clubs that are nice and open and welcome, and all about the music and the dancing and vibing gets a thumbs up from me this and I also wouldn't even bother entertaining the idea of going to a club that worried about what type of shoes you have on. i dont even own a pair of shoes..... awesome88 Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 thay have 'marco polo' on at ivy on a sunday nowdays which is apparently pretty goodivy is too pricey for me thou, so ive never been they wouldn't let me and my mate in once cos of my shirts, but said "she can come in though"(my girlfriend).Called the bloke a fucking idiot and refused to go back lawl Quote
dflux4 Posted February 2, 2012 Author Posted February 2, 2012 Will be good to see what happens with the idea, but i agree with eggs. The clubs you go to where they judge you on your attire are generally full of douche bags anyway....I work in the city and used to go to Establishment and Ivy on a regular basis after work only because its so close and i was already dressed in a suit... I myself wouldn't choose to go into either on a regular weekend as generally what i wear out will not get me though the door.Security guards just love the power trip Quote
russell Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Security guards just love the power trip Big time... back in Glasgow my regular haunt was the Sub Club http://www.subclub.co.uk/they are pretty relaxed when it comes to door policy (especially these days when times are a bit tougher). There also used to be this one security guy who sound as fuck. by the end of the night he'd be on the dancefloor giving it big licks .... Thats what you want from security. Quote
Cupe Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 not quite sure i understood anything you just said Quote
