mattus123 Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 So im pretty sick of the way my music has been organised in Itunesbasically, all my Dj able music, i created a folder inwindows called 'singles' and copied everything from there into itunes.. so the file path for each song is C:/music/singlesi have now decided that i want to organise things more by genre within my computer and preferably within Itunes aswellif i start moving the songs into differnet folders though, the filepath will change and itunes wont be able to find the song, meaning ill have to manually find each filepath for each song... which i am NOT going to do.so the question becomes, how woudl be hte most efficient way to do this?would i be best to wipe Itunes clean, organise my music how i want it to be in windows, and then copy it all back into itunes?also while im at it, i know alot of people say itunes is shitwhat do you guys recommend to use instead of it?cheers guys Quote
Mitch Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Not saying iTunes is the best, but it's good as most other programs (eg record box) can pull info from it, will work with iPod etc. What I do with mine is let iTunes handle the folder sorting for me, so after you drag Into iTunes, you delete where you dragged it from as iTunes copies it to its own folder, then sorts it by artist/album in folders. Then just tag your songs correctly and use playlists. Can explain Better how to enable it and use it when I get home on a comp Quote
mattus123 Posted January 23, 2012 Author Posted January 23, 2012 ahh, the only playlists i have are when i burn them to CDsso my playlists only have like 5 songs on them Quote
SourceRaver Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 would i be best to wipe Itunes clean, organise my music how i want it to be in windows, and then copy it all back into itunes? This is what I would do if you really want to start reorganising your windows folders. But it would be simpler to just create a I-tunes Playlist folder (say 'Dj Music') and then create different playlist for each genre. Firstly you woud drag and drop your music collection into the Playlist Folder. You then drag and drop the tracks from the playlist folder into each playlist, Itunes will still know where to 'look' for the music even if its all in a single Windows Folder. Might look something like this Quote

Mitch Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 I do a similar thing with my playlists as the pic source posted, but I make a new folder for each month. Example:Playlist folder called '2012-01'And genre playlists inside that Quote
Jaz Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Genre is easiest wayMine goes"Commercial cheese, commercial remixes, drum and bass, dubstep, house and disco , electro "gets me by Quote
lloydc Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 lrn 2 smart playlist providing your music is tagged correctly, everything automatically goes into the right playlist.EG: I have a smart playlist for electro house:so everything that is 320kbps and has 'electro house' in the genre section of the ID3 tag goes into that playlist. mattus123 Posted January 23, 2012 Author Posted January 23, 2012 thats perfect guys, ill get on that first thing tommorrowcheers Quote
MelodyIlliterate Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 I'll pay some one $20 an hour to organise my music also, if you use mixed in key, is there a key column that automatically transfers over? Quote
lloydc Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 with MIK, mine is set up so that the key is written to the artist name, so in the artist column it would look like '8A - Knife party'there is however a BPM column and MIK writes to that once you scan your tunes Quote
Mitch Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 There is also a dedicated key column, but that only appears in dj programs and not iTunes. I get MIK to record to comments and key fields Quote
