Hey guys

so lately, as ive been browsing the interwebs for songs i have noticed that occassionally there will be 2 remixes of the same song, yet each remix will be under a different artist (not the remixing artist, the original artist)

not sure if im gettin my point across properly so heres an example

The original song is 'Snap - rhythm is a dancer'

one song says the oriignal is by Snap, the other says the original is by Cristian Poow feat Valessa

the other example that springs to mind is Avicii - Levels and Flo Rida - Good Feeling

is it just a case of artists buying the rights to the song, or something like that?

curious matt is curious

it's just re-using a known hook or sound

the ones that go huge would pay a royalty or whatever, or be allowed to use the samples from the original artist

ps. did anyone else mix those 2 youtube clips dj style :teef:

avicii is a king for this. also, brazil by deadmau5 has been branded a few different ways too. one by kylie and the other by some chick jay-z was working with (cant remember her name)

Snap sampled another tune. So some tracks you hear that sound like it just sampled the same track.

Also some people have covered the snap track, hence why they are the artist and not a remixer.

While all the rest are remixes. I think the second one you linked is a cover which has also been remixed

This site is a good site to show who sampled who (wazza showed us it a bit back)

Edit:oh yeah also forgot those that have sampled snap. Again hence thartist name wont be snap

in this day n age, everything get used over n over, especially when it comes to samples

Speaking of samples... Really interesting video on youtube about the amen break. . Sure I have it my fans from way back... will post in it own thread though as its awesome and deserves it own place.

so by taking a sample, they have been able to label it their own song?.... even though the sample is like the whole vocal riff?

from the link eggsell showed, its clear that a sample has been used as the main riff... but the Cristian Poow feat Valessa version sounds like its jsut remixed the original track

i suppose what im getting at is, why is the Cristian Poow feat Valessa version not a remix of the snap version.... eg snap - rhythm is a dancer (Cristian Poow remix feat Valessa)

sorry, this whole thing confuses me

I think the second one you linked is a cover which has also been remixed

^ that just blows my mind

i understand how a live band will often cover a song, and change up a bit and make it their own... but in EDM isnt that just called a remix?

mattus, another thing to think of if they take a sample and re record that sample with another persons voice (e.g. what tomy did with somebody that you used to know slop rock cover) that would be classed as a cover of the song and not a remix?

Can anyone confirm that

man a lot of it is all confusing, its the politics of it all, i dont really understand it a lot either, heres 1 way i can explain it, if any1 has a better way of explaining it please correct me, but its like making a sample yourself, if you hear a sound that you like and you have the equipment to make it and you do, technically you've made that sound, yes its based on a sound that someone else has already made, but you've still made it, thats why you see a lot of people putting up youtube videos on how they made the sounds, cause every1 else is using the same sounds

i hope that makes sense :P

yea that makes sense defkon

but i suppose i was just confused as to why copying a beat or riff from another track is sampling.. but in the second link, it seems they've taken the whole song and just remixed it, yet been bale to call it their own and say they sampled the original

unless its as fudd says, and that they re recorded the vocals

im gonna get my google on

No a remix can be bootlegged or by obtaining stems.

A cover means they recreated it. Maybe from the same sample maybe playing it out on synths rather than sampling.

Dr dre does that a lot and it got labeled interpolating to differentiate it from sampling.

So i am saying that second one, it is their own vocalist not the one from snap, and they likely played the track out

Edit: oh mitch on first.... Again. Haha thats why hes the king

hey mate i know you got it, but i wanted to do some visual examples but its shyte posting youtubes from the phone.

anyways not edm but still electronic sample based music that shows pretty much what people are saying.

here is a lady gaga track, poker face (acoustsic version)

kanye sampled this to make the beats for kid cudi - make her say. being a whole new song cudi is the artist

cubic zirconia covered the track. i.e no sampling of gaga or cudi, but actually covering the track. i love this version btw, and love cubic zirconia

sammy bananas of telephoned did an official remix. so the track is still listed as kid cudi - make her say (sammy bananas remix). and he had the stems to do the mix. awesome remix at that

i tried to find a bootleg but could only find mash ups and they were all pretty shyte. but i guess everyone knows what they are
