russell Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 rather than using her ears to cue the track she'd rathe stretch waaay over there so she can keep her eyes on the screen.... ps: some amount of gear shes got for a gig in a clothes shop. Quote
Jaz Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Exactly why I hate software, I end up staring at a screen Quote
Mitch Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 If you use the laptop properly it's fine, but when you do what she is doing in the pic, it's not using it as a tool anymore but fully relying on it Quote
yizzle Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 This is whats wrong with some laptop DJs....i prefer this picture to not speak for all people that use laptops to dj Quote
russell Posted January 19, 2012 Author Posted January 19, 2012 This is whats wrong with some laptop DJs....i prefer this picture to not speak for all people that use laptops to dj very true.... I should have ellaborated on that point as I myself use TSP along with vinyl. I dont however stare at the screen as I learned without the aid/crutch of it. Quote
eggssell Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 i wouldnt be so quick to judge. she could be using track 2 to shuffle thru the tracks to find the track she is looking for. so looking at the laptop will be no different than digging thru your crate trying to find that album (at which point you too would not be engaging at that point).or she could be cueing her record, at which i still applaud her as i notice a lot of dvs djs these days using relative mode and just hitting a button for cue. which kind of defeats the purpose because you have just in essence turned your turntable into a big cdj player. why not just use cdj's then.all that photo shows is their setup is extremely bad for a grrl with her length arms. SolDios Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 I don't get why she didn't just move the 1000's out the way, it's only a 2ch mixer, so having the 1000's there isn't nessasary. Quote

eggssell Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 could be more than one DJ on deck. but yes still not the best setup Quote

eggssell Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 ahhh true to the poo on point 1.and on point 2, as i said still better than the cats using relative mode and then hitting cue points. Quote

chrismak Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 I really don't see the issue.None of us know how well her mixing sounds. If its working for her then so be it. We're sitting on our computers analyzing a picture we know little about and judging her while she's out there having a decent go. How many of us have peaked at the BPM display or used an auto loop. We're all cheaters in somebody's eyes.Cut the girl a break guys. Quote

eggssell Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 it was technique that russ was pointing out not the mixing skillsi.e the technique of cueing with your eyes, as opposed to just listening to the record and spinning to find your spot kinda like saying noah has shitty freethrow technique but that doesnt mean you are commenting on its success Quote
russell Posted January 20, 2012 Author Posted January 20, 2012 it was technique that russ was pointing out not the mixing skillsi.e the technique of cueing with your eyes, as opposed to just listening to the record and spinning to find your spot exactly. she could be the best mixer on the planet... when she has a laptop to look at. And we don't really know how good it sounds. Quote

GREMM1S Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 If you are using visual and any form of computer aid, sync, pitch match etc then you are cheating yourself and your audience that expects a skilled artist who has worked hard to achieve his talents.I understand in terms of an alternative to physical vinyl and also agree with programs like rekordbox which are essentially digital libraries not players if you get my drift.
