Cupe Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 i used to have an old system and the fuses always went firstopened up the amp, changed them, good as new Quote
imadje Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 fuses is way easier to fix but blown fuses = no sound, farting normally = tear in the cone. Even though people have fixed them with tape they are not actually easy to fix as you have to get the cone out first. And if they were good speakers you may want to do more than use selloptape. Like replace them. Sorry to mislead you bro. Quote
yizzle Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 you did no such thing as mislead me. If anything you made me realize i should do something about it. more as a respect if anything.ill get a bud around to look at the cone, if thats cool ill move onto fuses. BAH, being a young fool with little respect has very much bitten my ass.. Quote
imadje Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 chk fuses first, they are easier normally Quote

eggssell Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 ye olde daysmy old man had a marantz "stack" or component system. but in terms of "djing", my older bro and me got a cheap all in one (vinyl player, tape deck, radio) when i was about 8. about a month after we got it one of the holmies came around scratched a record, broke the needle and it stayed like that for many years!!then in terms of playing out i was involved in two ways from when i was 13. one was making mixtapes which we played out of boomboxes or disco robos at parties. i even sold a few when i was 13. these mixtapes were made on cassette tape and was a collection of music i dubbed from another casstte, recorded off vinyl, or recorded off the radio. the important part was having tapes for different parts of the party and making sure each song flowed into the other because it was premade. i would go back to making "mixtapes" on cd's for the holmies every summer when we started driving.the next way was back in the day at house parties. the party holder would rent two turnies, a mixer, speakers. and in most cases a strobe light, a uv light, disco lights and a smoke machine. then it was usually a free for all of people taking turns behind the decks. between me and my siblings we had a few at our place so i got plenty of time behind decks. not a lot of beatmatching, just cross fading but not always intro/ outro, sometimes youd go just a verse of banger to banger shouting switch. haha. and because i had my share of 12 inches i can remember with a few mates having to cart records in crates on our skateboards from one suburb to the next.this all ended when i was 16 or 17 as some of the kids started buying these things referred to as toys (which later would be dubbed cdj's ), and because they owned it the community vibe of everyone having a go on the decks went away. admittedly the beatmatchig improved but it was a change we all had to get use to.... eggssell Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 da nu dayzabout three years ago i decided i wanted to start actually mixing the mixtapes i made for my mates so i started looking for techies on ebay. after about six months and a fruitless effort (and many many outbids); and because dj warehouse having a sale i bit the bullet and bought my first setup.2 x stanton ST-150's; Reloop IQ2 (the non USB model); Traktor Scratch Pro. in total about $2.5Ki didnt buy speakers and have been using a technics stereo system i already had, it was one of the last to be made in japan before they moved to thailand(?), and i was using some year old skull candies that i had already owned. as these snapped after a month of djing i bought XD53's for about $200+.in terms of playing out since then. nada.well except playing to some drunken grrls dancing around my place in the wee hours of the morning. which is fun but occassionally gets dangerous. once i saw someone falling towards my flat screen, then my flat screen falling (it was like an accident where it must have been only 5 seconds but it ran in slow motion); but a lucky grab saved it in time! chrismak Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 I first became interested in Trance back in 2000 while still in Highschool and came to appreciate House later on in 2004 when I first hit the club scene.A few years ago I had a couple of mix sessions at one of my old workmates place. He had a DJM800 and two CDJ1000 MK3's. I tried to mix tracks together with just crossfading but sounded rough as I had no idea about beat matching. I was overwhelmed by all the controls but facinated at the same time.My interest in DJ'ing wasn't to be cool or the center of attention, but to fulfil my curiosity with how everything worked and experience what it felt like to make a mix that sounded smooth and flawless (with the music i loved obviously). So I Started saving some cash and doing research on gear. My first setup 2009:Allen & Heath Xone-92 (second Hand)2x Pioneer CDJ1000 MK2's (second hand)Sennheiser HD25 II2x Behringer Truth B2031A's (second hand)It didn't take long for me to learn how to beatmatch reasonably, and phrase matching came easy because I had a decent grasp of the typical trance/house structrue from all those years of listening.I started to notice that some older tracks I really wanted were available only on vinyl, and also became curious with what the difference was mixing with CDJ's & turntables. Since my mixer had more than enough channels I started looking out for some second hand Technics.Early 2010:2x Technics SL1200MKII (second hand) About 70 Hard Trance Vinyl's (second hand) to get me started.Although it was harder than mixing with CDJ's, I started to love the feel of mixing with vinyl as it was as if I was physically controlling the music. The trouble was that vinyl is significantly more expensive than digital tracks and I started to consider Digital Vinyl Systems such as Traktor & Serato.Late 2010:Traktor Scratch Pro with Kontrol X1By this time I was rocking the odd house party but the speakers I had just weren't cutting it. I had the thirst for crisp highs and chest thumping bass. Time for some decent sound Early 2011:2x JBL PRX 635JBL PRX 618S-XLFRecently I wanted to get more serious with production so...Late 2011:MaschineKomplete 8 SuiteLogic Studio 9At the moment I still have all the above mentioned gear, doing the odd house party, weekend mix sessions and teaching myself how to produce. It's an expensive hobby but a very fun one nonetheless. Quote

anditz Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 I started with borrowing a friends cdj100s and djm400. then i decided to buy my own so i got cdj400s and a djm600 for $900. sold that a month later for $1450 and on the same day bought a newer pair of 400s with an rc2 road case for $700 and got djm400 for $430. Recently sold the djm400 for the same price and bought a djm700 brand new for $750. I only use my gear for the odd private function and to make a demo everynow and then (which i should really get on to). So effectively I've paid $850 for my current set up (cdj400s and djm700) looking to add some technics 1200s but haven't decided yet. Quote

pundaddy Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 I'm a real impatient fucker and Dj warehouse had been out of stock for some time as I was looking to buy some CDJ 850's and a 700 mixer cos that's all my budget allowed me, so I went to jb hifi and all they had was the 350 pack, so I picked that up along with HDJ 1000's and some audioline studio monitors for somewhere between 2500-2900 can't quite remember, very happy with my purchases still. Dominant Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 At 21 I bought a BCD3000 and a set of Sennheiser HD280's. The BCD3000 was a constant struggle and didn't work on my computer because it was 64bit so I had to use the girlfriends which made it even more annoying. After I got so annoyed with the BCD I bought a mixtrack which was great for learning the most basic of basics but I quickly got over it and bought a Kontrol S4. The S4 has been really good but I think I will eventually upgrade to a set of pioneers or some turntables, probably around tax time this year. Quote
