SolDios Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Hey guys, I was recently contacted by a wedding planner who wanted to give me some workall was fine until she started talking about flying me interstate to do weddingsIt sounds extremely suss, and impracticable for that matter.I told her I wasn't prepared to do that, and my rates where $50 an hour with a $50 set-up fee and a $50 deposit (For weddings)She's going to get me to play at a 21's in march to see what im like, but it sounds extremely suss. Your opinion? Quote
andyman Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Dunno Sol.But if she does wanna fly you interstate, lap that shit up! Quote

andyman Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 achally, it's probably a scam.demand a rider with ridiculous things on it, ie: drugs, a midget to blow you whilst mixing, a tour bus, a team of roadies, etc and see what they say Quote
SolDios Posted January 11, 2012 Author Posted January 11, 2012 first of all, you charge too less. stop undercutting the industryhow many times must this be said before you fucking listenHow much do I charge then? Quote

Lurk6r Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 So $700+What should it be then if they supply there own MCI don't do that stuff.1.Call this number, ---> 1800 100 606 <--- tell them your planning your wedding reception and would like to know how much a dj would cost, how many years experience they have (expect bullshit) and what equipment they bring. Obviously DON'T give any real names.2.Report back your findings.3....4. Profit Quote
Cupe Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 so this has turned into another how much should i charge thread? Quote
imadje Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 And obv chk that flights, accomodation, food and a little pocket money or "per day" expense allowance is included and of a reasonable standard. Tbh it's poss that this isnt a scam, just someone starting in the business who doesnt know any better. But yer- sort your prices, chk other firms and your old threads. You're not a noob anymore sol, price yourself accordingly. Quote
crundyy Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 its obviously going to be a fuckaround and your obviously not going to do the gig so why make a thread about something you/we all know. Quote
imadje Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 ^fuck you're trollin bad at the moment andrew.Sol has had a business communication concerning the industry he is actually making a career in. He is asking the people he trusts most (that's us lot) for any information they can give him to best arrive at his own conclusion. I admit he has his own way of doing this but for fucks sake: if you dont like a thread why post in it?I also dont think reading old threads will help arrive at a price as this kind of work is entirely different and involves heaps more costs. Although old threads will show that sol is pricing too low generally.Sol: another reason she may have called you and sounds sus could be due to your prices being so low. She may think you are a chump she can make a quick buck out of. Go steady with her, it could be a good contact, but as already said: research your prices and quote accordingly. I cant help on that as you know as we have different currency and pricing structure. Quote
SolDios Posted January 11, 2012 Author Posted January 11, 2012 Im kinda in a love hate situation with my pricing at the momentPro:I get gigs from people who would normally skip a DJ for there wedding all together, so Im not undercutting anyone there.Con:Less money to look forward to/spend on gear :/Yeh, I will definitely keep an eye on her, and be very prompt about my deposit for this gig she's getting me to play at.It should be good, but it still seems off. SolDios Posted January 11, 2012 Author Posted January 11, 2012 Especially as she doesn't talk very professionally, and I heard a baby crying in the background big time when she called me.These are the message she sent me over Facebook:Chontel ParHey are you still doing dj work I can get you lots of work if you are please give me a call 0488246661 xKris O'shaMay I ask what kind of work? Currently I am mainly doing mobile work for Party's, Weddings, and other functions.Chontel ParCan I call you xKris O'sha*phone number removed*, I am currently busy however, could you please call after 11AM? imadje Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 young mums have their hands full, they still have to make a living.in many industries top employers only rate people with families as they show they can manage to keep both their families and their business heads together.DJing isnt normally one of those industries but agency/wedding planning/event management often is.I guess I'm saying that just coz she works from home and has a child doesnt mean shit.As I already said: she could be new to the job and trying her best, she could be an old hand and wanting to take advantage of your cheap rates, or she could be a fool.Do the simple local gig, get to know her and how well she takes care of her side of things. Then judge. But yer - if all the other mobiles on here say you are cheap I have to agree with them. You are experienced and have rep/word of mouth to back up your skills now. I would re-consider your price. Remember, people who have had you cheap will be telling their mates so they may still be booking you coz of your cheap price. That doesnt mean you cant advertise at a higher price to see if people go for it. You could always do two ads from two dif names with dif prices etc. This way you maintain your current business and rep but also start a new one doing the same thing but for more money. Trust me: some people will go for the higher price simply cos they'll feel something too cheap is too good to be true. And if they dont what has it cost you? a few flyers and shit to try it out?Or if you're really worried about putting people off perhaps have a higher price with a note on your ads saying : "I am negotiable and will do my best to make your event the best" or sumthin.p.s. edit your phone number of the forum post above mate. crundyy Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 she has a young child so she must be a scam. dont do it, she'l probably feed you roofies and do unimaginable things to you. Quote

SourceRaver Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Jeez Sol...jump on the web and do your research. You got the ladys name so have a look at Google, FB, Twiter, Linkinedin etc and you'll soon find out if shes legit. If she has no web presence then proceed with caution or expect her to be starting a new business.Of course you could always give us her number and we could ring up and ask how much she charges for a Dj with your experience. Probably charges a lot more than you do.In all likelyhood she just represents a mobile Dj company looking for extra Dj's to hire out. She might charge $900 but only pay you $450. pretty good for her considering you have all your own equipment and music. the talk about paying for flights etc is just a sweetner to get you signed up. Not so much a scam but be aware you may not need her company to get the work you want. Quote
imadje Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 ^right on source, plus:Of course you could always give us her number and we could ring up and ask how much she charges for a Dj with your experience. Probably charges a lot more than you do.this is really going the extra mile.Sol you are a lucky sod to know folk like this, listen and learn mate. Quote
