akain
Hey all,Im entering into a DJ competition and the entry requires a 10 minute mini mix. I've never been one for the shorter mixes, so im curious as to what everyones opinions are on pulling off a mini mix... how many songs should i be aiming for, are they looking for more smooth, simple transitions or something a little different?Any ideas would be great.Cheers
Mitch
Dj tutor run a tenminmix Comp (probably the One your entering) Have a look at some other entries on www.djtutor.comAlso, check this thread, one of our other members entered a couple of times, vids are in the thread. One of his entries made top 20, so will give you an idea on what they are looking for. viewtopic.php?t=7268Hope this helps
mattus123
i think (keyword: think) with a 10 min mix, u just want it to be banger banger banger bangernot too long of build ups etc

Hobberz
If it were me I would cram as many songs as possible into 10 minutes
chrismak
1. There is no formula you should be following as gospel.2. PLAN your mix. Experiment at first and note down what works well and what doesn't.3. Consider mashing up tracks instead of 'song 1 outro -> song 2 intro' mixing. Keep your listeners on their toes.4. You don't have to select bangers from the Beatport top 10 list that every DJ and their dog are going to use.5. Utilize Acapellas. Perhaps from classic tracks that everyone knows but neglected to think about using.6. Begin with a cool sample that will grab attention.
