that sucks, i usually have a couple of mates on hand who always chill at the decks with me so if anyone gets close with drinks they take care of them. Nothing more frustrating then some drunk dickhead doing something like that, which is why i charged so much when i used to do mobile.

silver lining, if you were thinking about upgrading now might be a good excuse, specially with all the after xmas sales, and in a couple of weeks all the superstar djs who got shit for xmas and figure out it takes a bit more than just pushing the play button or slamming the cross fader will be selling their stuff

well... it was actually a mate who spilled the drink

just found out it was only water though, so aslong as i can dry it out good an proper, i might actually be ok

i remember reading that if its something like coke of beer even if it dries out the residue can still fuck it up down the track, this shouldnt happen with water though should it?

maybe we should turn this thread into 'drink spilling prevention thread and people can post ways to stop people from stuff getting spilt

just let it dry out before turning it on, water doesnt actually do much damage in itself, its only when you turn it on with water logged electronics that the damamage happens

Ive had friends knock over there water bottle into the computers (while its off) and people who have left there laptop out in the rain, let it dry out and its worked fine

might be a diff story since you had yours on while the spillage happened :(

aslong as i leave it turned off and let the water evaporate it should all work fine.. im just worried about the left over stuff from the water (flourite and jazz) might stay behind and rust the equipment

a whole pint of cheap lager upturned on a cdj 1000 millenium eve. Luckily only took £75 to sort professionally and I still use same deck 12 years on.

a line of expensive stuff blown into a yamaha MG12 mixing desk by a security man who didnt know his job cost more to replace.

good thread for the important RIPs mattus.

yea ive had mates tell me it was defiently fucked

took it to an electrical engineer.. $70 later everything is working like new

on the second time round, i opened it up myself and cleaned/dried it myself

ive worked on a theory though, it could be wrong as im no electrical engineer.. it could also be very obvious and ive only just worked it out

when drinks spills on the equipment, it seeps into it and onto the circuit board, the liquid drops (electrical conductors), however few there are, screw up the circuit board by providing the electrical signal alternate routes through the circuit board (circuit boards are consisted of millions of 'open/closed' switches (transistors). So as long as there is water drops on the circuit board the electrical signal will continue to go the wrong way and hte equipment wont work.

SOOO in conclusion, if u can dry up the water in theory it will allow the electrical signal to flow through the circuit board in the way it was designed to.

for drinks that leave a residue (anything except for water) it will be important to get that cleaned as apparently the residue will slowly rot the circuit board causing permanent damage (even if it appears there is no immediate issue with the equipment)

hope this helps anyone.. i also hope its 100% correct

So far haven't had any spillages, but have had some damages:

- dickheads were trying to see who has the biggest cock by who can tough a halogen mushroom light the longest [its gets really hot] - it got dinted but it wasn't mine and i got to yell at people so not that bad

- transporting 2 turntables in my back seat, forget their there, take a hard corner, one falls down underneath the front seat. this was a couple of days after I got a 2nd turntable.

- Buy powered speakers, amplifier for old speakers stops working.

- On new years some bitch gets excited and holds a full mug/stein/thing full of champagne over my laptop.

I find as long as you do things properly [barriers, storage, signs, keep drunk bitches at bay] mishaps can be avoided.
