Duz Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 Was having a think earlier today in the car about people who use multiple aliases to do different styles of music.RZA/Bobby digital, pendulum/knife party etc. what do you guys reckon? do you think that if they are the same artists that they should continue using the same 'brand' or is it good that they separate the stuff they do out? ChevChelios Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 I think its personal preference man, its useful if you don't want the two aliases to be related. Quote
Robsta Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 There's a whole bunch of writers who write a different name on their books to keep their personal life separate Quote
SolDios Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 Tim Berg is a good example for this.Edit: Holy crap, I didn't know knife party was pendulum! Mind = blown Quote
Dominant Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 It's also a good way to keep a good name if you release something in a different genre that bombs. Quote
Mitch Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 Tim Berg is a good example for this.Edit: Holy crap, I didn't know knife party was pendulum! Mind = blownWhere have you been living? Quote

Duz Posted December 24, 2011 Author Posted December 24, 2011 IMO, its a goo way of keeping tracks that have a similar sound under a single artist, but would allow you to diversify your creativity..Also,There's a whole bunch of writers who write a different name on their books to keep their personal life separateYou are a fuckhead Quote

imadje Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 I think its personal preference man, its useful if you don't want the two aliases to be related.Exactly, eg norman cooke as his many edm incarnations chose a dif name so he could be sure he wasnt just cashing in on the fatboy slim brand. But the beastie boys release all theirraw punk stuff on same name. Then of course their are bands who evolve their sound over time but keep one name like the beatles. Quote
mattus123 Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 knife party isnt pendulumknife party are two members from pendulum, which makes sense to me that they use a different nameas for using a different name for differnet genres, i think its personal preference.,. personally, i dont actually think its that bad of an idea Quote
Jaz Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 i think 2 is fine, but say you produce house, electro, and dubstep but create 3 names...thats pushing it a bit Quote
