Skank Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 very interesting way to get a quick description of the type of track you looking at i might have a go at it seems a little complicated thodoes any one here use it?http://www.djnotation.org/ Quote
russell Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 thats seems waaay harder than just knowing your tunes. Quote
Duz Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 thats seems waaay harder than just knowing your tunes.^I thought it was going to be this, which I think should be a whole bunch more popular than it is: http://www.ttmethod.com/ Quote
Skank Posted December 14, 2011 Author Posted December 14, 2011 i wouldnt mind being able to remember all my tunes but i honestly download min 1k plus tunes a week its really hard to filter them all out in time to play by each friday the second method looks to be the same sort of thing ill give it a go see how well it works Quote
russell Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 i honestly download min 1k plus tunes a week surely it's impossible to listen to over 1k of tunes every week. Quote
Skank Posted December 15, 2011 Author Posted December 15, 2011 i dont know about impossible bt i review each track flick through it to listen to the kick in break etc proably takes about 5 seconds each song Quote
yizzle Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 i dont know about impossible bt i review each track flick through it to listen to the kick in break etc proably takes about 5 seconds each songi kinda have a system similar to this, few secs for: analyze bpm / listen for heavy, soft beats / skip every 20secs and get a general idea for the 'feel' of it.Doesn't mean i know the track inside out but i believe it gives you a pretty idea. Its a good system when your constantly grabbing new things. Like the track/sample whore i personally am Quote
russell Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Thats cool that that works for you guys but I'm the opposite. I like to listen to the whole track, make sure I like the whole thing, if not I would consider doing an edit if I thought it would work. Doesn't sound like a lot of love goes into picking tracks when you just flick through them to check for breakdowns etc. Quote
yizzle Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 not just breakdowns buddy. breakdowns dont hold tracks together. what would a set be with 28 breakdowns linking into each other?it gives an idea & a feel for the track. to the original point of skank's; its a good way to get an understanding of a track.i doubt that kind of vagueness is an attitude any of us would share when push comes to shove at a venue Quote
russell Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 breakdowns etc. When i'm buying a record I'll skip through yeah. but I'm always gonna go and listen to the whole thing ya know. Quote
