Cupe Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Where did the name come from?Well it was something I came up with about 1 year ago. It consists of three parts, “d” as in a Class D or Monoblock amps, It was also a component to my first sound system in my car which absolutely pumped and sealed my love for bass. The “flux” , as in the fluctuation that sound has when it’s played in different notes and finally “4” as this was the day I was born and my favourite nuber. All up it makes dflux4 (btw this has nothing to do with deadmau5 it’s just a coincidence). How long have you been playing & how did it all begin; What factors came together for you to take an interest in DJ'ing/Producing?I have been playing for about 6 months; I have always had an ear for music but never the influence around me to start DJ’ing. When I was in school I was always the one to burn CD’s and bring the music for the parties, I even played around for a bit on Virtual DJ but it didn’t appeal to me at the time. About 7 months ago I met my mate Kraver DJ, he only lives around the corner from mine which gave me the opportunity to learn how to DJ that was convenient and meant I didn’t have to fork out a heap of cash at the start. From there it just felt like it fit, I had someone to learn off and a willingness to learn. What do you spin? How would you describe your sound and what sort of style/DJ's influence you?Electro would be my genre of choice, I started off mixing hardstyle but with electro it’s like I just get it. Even if it’s a song I haven’t heard I feel as though I know the structure before I hear it. Plus it makes me feel good which is a massive thing to me with music.Anything with a grinding sound is what really catches my ear, the dirtier the better with electro but I'm all for house and a little bit of dub as well (who isn’t at the moment, so many aspects of dub making its way into nearly every genre.)I have always loved the sound that deadmau5 has made, from the moment I heard the reward is cheese I was hooked. The list can go on for influences and style but in a few names it would be; deadmau5, Justice, Toxic Avenger, Wolfgang Gartner and Feed Me.What are your weapons of choice?Well at the moment I have some Reloop RMP-2’s and a Numark M4 mixer. I found this gear at a price that suited my budget at the time. I will be looking at purchasing some monitors speakers as my 10 year old Sony 5.1 surround sound system doesn’t seem to cut it If I could have anything I'm sure most would be with me one this one, CDJ2000’s and a DJM800 with a laptop hooked up.If you could change 1 thing along your way up to where you are now, what would it be and why?I think It would have been to get into it at an earlier age. There was so much time I could have been producing or mixing when I wasn’t, but that doesn’t bother me too much as I have started now anyway. If you could put yourself as the resident DJ in any scene, where would you choose and why?I would want to be resident DJ in America; to me the music scene in Australia is limited by so much. Sound production, venues and even the crowds.... A lot of the people that go to festivals/clubs in Australia don’t go for the music, they go for the scene. Sometimes they don’t even know who is performing... WTF!My experiences in America have showed me that they really love the music over there, its shows with their presence in the crowd, the extents of their productions and the overall vibe of their festivals. If I was to pick a club it would be LIV which is in Miami, consistently has the best EDM DJ’s in the world performing there. For a festival it would have to be Electric Zoo in New York, if you haven’t heard of it google that shit! What other Australian DJ's/Producers do you rate? There are quite a few that I rate, from all different genres too. Victor Lopez, TyDi, Toneshifterz, Bombs Away, Tommt Trash, Dirty South, Bio Weapon and Bag Raiders to name a few..What was the first album you ever bought?Haha I like this question.. I remember it like it was yesterday, I had opened up a back account only the week before. I went to Fox studios with a mate and by chance found this group that I had heard on a community radio station 99.9 Flava fm. I got to use my brand new bank card for the first time, and as the CD was an import it cost something like $34.99 in '2000'.The group was called Profyle and the album was called Nothin' but Drama. I actually still have the CD till this day. Album consists of your typical RnB slow jam love songs mixed in with a few catchy bangers... I think my favourite track on the album was No Trickin’Cheers dflux4! Quote
