NI And Ableton, Where should I start!

Hi everyone,

I have been mixing for a little while but am very new to the production world,

I don't have any software or equipment but am keen to jump into it all over the big summer break!

Firstly, I am into Electronic, House, Club, Dance, DNB, Chill, Indie Electro, DnB, Liquid DnB and Dubstep

Looking to produce my own tracks. I have played piano for 11 years so I think it might be a good idea if I got a synth?

I don't know where to start haha, Anyway my question is should I use Ableton or some of the NI programs? Whats good what isn't. I use a mac only.

My friend has offered me his NI maschine for a pretty good price but I won't grab unless it is the right thing to do,

I would also love to incorporate live production (controllers) stuff with my mixing if possible,

Tell me your thoughts and thanks a lot in advance!

Jarrah

I think just getting a maschine would be a bit of a bad idea, mainly because sole MPC production is usually geared towards hip hop, which according to your tastes, isn't really in the cards, and secondly, all them piano chops would be going to waste. If I was you, I'd check out demo software of all the main DAW producers, choose which ever one you like the best, get a midi keyboard, and that would probably be the most natural way to write for you imo.

Maschine is a good piece of kit though, and would definitely compliment the setup I mentioned, especially if you like to smack out your beats n shiz yo :)
