Hey,

I am DJing for a formal after party later next week, and I have a good opportunity to get some speakers with the people on the list chipping in, otherwise I am hiring which isn't good.

I have a budget between $500 - $800, looking for anything that suites 100 people and sounds good :)

I have lights and everything else,

Please contact me if you have anything !

Thanks

Correct me if im wrong, but those are passive speakers, meaning you need to spend more money to also buy an inappropriate amp.

As for renting, You should have a look at something like this. http://www.djwarehouse.com.au/hire-jbl- ... ystem.html

Its powered so you don't need to worry about amplifiers and the subs usually feature crossovers so you can filter the bass out of the tops. Also cause your outdoors you'll need alot more power than indoors.

yeeah I just did a bit of research, looking for something to last... I have Djed for a few parties now and hired speakers, I think I should invest in a decent set

Looking at either...

Plus one of these eventually

Or just a pair of Audiolines 12'' or 15''

What do you think, would I need amps?

I own a pair of b212d. Their pretty good for what your paying, but the lose a fair amount of low end once on stands. I'd also recommend connecting them with XLR and plugging them on the same power point as the mixer so you can turn up the gain and keep the noise down.

If you check the Yet another Yet another speaker thread, people gave their opinion on 12 vs 15 audioline vs behringer. For sub id go with.

I'm not too familiar with the 15 vs 18 sub debate, but the 18 is HUGE. I think you'd be better off with a powered sub. Less setup, built in cross over and the has a properly matched amp.

Thanks for that, So i wouldn't need an amp for the B212Ds? Or AudioLines?

I think I might grab them and plug them with the mixer for this party, and later grab one of those subs ^ how do those compare to the JBL? Same kinda price

Are the lights decent? ^^

Thanks so much for this, really appreciate it!

For the record.

Active or Powered - the amplifier is built inside the speaker, a dead give away is the knobs on the back

Passive - you need an amplifier, usually it will have 2 plugs, usually speakon and jack, but no knobs.

I've got a gig tomorrow and I'll let you know how the 212's hold up.

Those lights look okay. If you want to make the most of your lasers, get a smoke machine. Especially for the scanning laser, its meant to create tunnels and such, but without a smoke machine you'l just have squiggles on the wall. Make sure you maintain a safe distance between the crowd and laser.

I'd recommend you have separate speakers to the amp, that way if anything goes wrong with the amp you don't lose out totally and the amp is purposely built with proper ventilation and fans, also running long input cables to powered speakers can pick up noise / hum.

I use Etone 18" and they thump out the sound, when I did large Blue Light Disco's I've used 4, 2 stacked each side but thats for very large halls and over 1000 kids. For an Amp i'd recommend Jands built like a tank.

If you get into trouble maybe I can Hire some of My gear to you.

But then if your one amp overloads, all your music is gone, and you gota spend big money to get a b grade one.

I guess it really comes down to personal preference.

I just like powered because it's set down and go with no other hassles.

no, mackie thumps aren't good. i used to own 2 of them, they weren't particularly nice sounding and they didnt go loud at all. limited them all the time, had only super nearfield bass and i got rid of them after about 4 months.

i upgraded to rcf 422s and a 902 sub, which i am seriously happy about. just hire, claim that you bought them, and keep the cash to save for some better speakers.

id be happy to hire my shit to you (better then jbl) for cheaper then dj warehouse too...
