dechnician
Just a few questions about starting production.I've only ever used FL demos a few years ago now.what other decent production software is there? and anyone know some where i can get a free full versions?I heard q-base is the best mastering software? And just wanna get a rough idea of how much time you boys spend on your production compared to your mixing? or is it one or the other?Cheers
Mitch
You won't find out how to get free versions on here.Assuming your running windows, main options are:FL StudioAbletonCuebassFor Mac:LogicAbletonPretty sure most people here use those (off the top of my head)
Cupe
You won't find out how to get free versions on here. What he means is no one will help you get pirated copies.Though there are free versions of some half decent DAW's out there, someone might know of some and will post
ChevChelios
If you want a decent free DAW, get Reaper
imadje
how much time you boys spend on your production compared to your mixing? or is it one or the other?I'm not taking the piss in anyway but to try and put that q into perspective: it's a bit like asking a comic book writer how much time he spends drawing and how much time he spends writing. by which i mean: The two things inspire each other and each person will do what feels right to them and their aims. Also: Full free versions are generally unreliable due to the fact they are cracked. Most DAW offer a trial version so you can see which suits you but then you'll need to choose and pay. No harm buying a lite version and paying more later to upgrade to full version if it is working for you.

Only reason i asked is some djs are more renowned for their mixing skills rather then their productions skills. Guess its personal preference. LabRat
Well if you want to take things seriously then buying these things is the only way to go. You can get free programs like mixcraft and cool edit but they don't do much. Having a licensed copy gives you access to full support and updates. Some pirated copy's are missing a few plugins which help the system run properly so you'll experience crashes constantly.
yizzle
^ CoolEdit is a great starter. I started producing diff stuff on CoolEdit long time ago. Having pirated copies of anything you use will do nothing for your future career i can assure you of that
