mattus123
Hey guysi havent started production yet, but i am looking into starting ithttp://www.catchoftheday.com.au/smallfi ... s_id=36110im thinking of buying that, but before i do i just wanted to know how many of you producers actually use midi keyboards, and do you think i will need one as im only just starting?also, it says runs on windows 32 bit and mac... does that mean it wont run on 64bitcheers guys
Jaz
i had 1 and never used it, it was just to big for my desk and hated getting it out, you can also just use the keyboard keys in almost the same way...they dont really have velocity sensors like midi keys do
Bonz
dont know much about that particular one mattus, but i do use an AKAI MPK 25 and i think its great to have for production.makes life so much easier when layin down a melody and whatnot.theres only one bad thing about the akai mpk....it doesnt have automapping.but assigning any knob or button to a synth or whatever is real easy.i havent had a problem with it yet. very solid unit for live shows also.and it pretty much has every function u need. SweetIshDub
Ive never had a midi keyboard but i will admit to using the computer keyboard like Jaz said here and there. The main reason I would want one is to be able to better control pitch bend tbh. I like the one you linked mostly because of the 4 octave range but thats probably just the piano player in me. For just starting out it seems like a great controller but down the line you might find that you want something more like Bonz's with pads and a ton of knobs to map. Personally I would start by messing around with production using the piano roll in your DAW so you can get a feel for what a controller could add to the process and see if its worth the money. Not to discourage you from going that route though, its all about personal preference and what you're trying to do
LabRat
Midi controllers make life a hell of a lot easier. I use the computer keyboard if I open up a project and i need one or 2 notes played. I use my synth as a midi controller because it has the capabilities otherwise I'd defs buy one
