MelodyIlliterate
ok say you made a bootleg/remix/ whatever you want to call it.of a songyou thought it was really really good... what determines weather its an "official" remixi.e you can make money off it and you send a percentage of sales to an artist...not saying i've done it... just pure curiosity
Tomy
sooooooooooo generally speaking. basic processyour remix gets picked up by a label.. cool. they will generally approach the original artist or label and ask for permission and/or pay for the rights to release the remix pack. MelodyIlliterate
so some one could put a remix up... then you just sit there and play the waiting game... you dont have to get in contact with and artist your slef and ask for permission? Tomy
generally you don't really need to ask permission to remix or to do a bootleg unless your trying to get the stems/parts etc. BUT if you actually release it and don't have any permissions you can get in a bit of trouble. if you put it out there for free it usually isn't a problem unless its signed to sony... they are mean.but if you want to try to get it released. I would maybe send it to the label and the artist for consideration. If you are doing this I would also suggest to NOT have it up on soundcloud or anywhere first. Just incase they want to be dicks and cause trouble over it. If it gets rejected by the label them perhaps politely ask if they would mind if you gave it out for free.hope that helps? Jaz
i think your only have to get permissions from the artists if your going to make money off of it, if not then free download away
MelodyIlliterate
yeah that helps a lot man... hmm i wonder why sony are such whales about it all... any procedures to find out exactly who a track or artists record label is? Cupe
sony are cunts about everything, it's why they own half the world and are billionares.normally an artist should be displaying who their label is on releases. otherwise gewgle
Tomy
i think your only have to get permissions from the artists if your going to make money off of it, if not then free download away close, putting it up for download without being approved by the copyright holder is still against copyright laws, but in the dance scene no one really cares as its basically added promo.sony are pretty tight because the music industry is fucked these days. more money in suing.
