Suby Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 Since I have started playing out lately (I have put it in mobile because I take me gear to the bar I play at) I have been thinking, I really should get my stuff covered by some sort of insurance. Do any of you guys have your gear covered under any sort of policy and if so what does it cost and what does it cover? for example, would it cover you stuff if someone poured a drink over your mixer or cdj? Jaz Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 Can insure your gear under your house insurance easy as, if your mobile DJing and something gets broken, just say it happened in your house Quote
imadje Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 there is a fair amount of info on insurance here: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3021&hilit=insurance&start=15 but ignore the posts by a dj called dennis. Pill drops the knowledge in that thread.I would get public liability if you are taking kit into a venue. In the U.K. we have a musicians union who provide legal, insurance and other services at discounts for anyone in the music/dj trade. Isn't there anything similar in oz? Quote
Slippy Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 hey mate i was going to just use home insurance but they reckon that its not covered for certain things (i was using spilling a beer as example) not sure he if was just trying to close me on the other option as what jaz says makes sense but basically with Youi i get my gear covered for 6000 "Away from home" covered against ANYTHING for 261 per year so i just pay that the be on safe side Quote
Suby Posted September 30, 2011 Author Posted September 30, 2011 hey slippy i have looked into it a bit and actually spoke to youi and the guys were all good about it and at the last minute they came out with 'its not actually covered if you are using it for money making purposes ei. in a bar or club or anywhere you are getting payed to use them' so I would just double check that you are covered for what you think your covered for.. so that brings the question do I just insure it as 'home use' and risk it if I try to claim it when its actually been damaged away from home? eggssell Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 yeah i have everything i own covered anywhere in australia for loss or even accidental breakage.but its nullified if its used for commerical purposes Quote
imadje Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 http://www.musicians.asn.au/union/about.htmlthe U.K. union only allowed DJs to join up three or four years ago. Discount insurance for kit and public liabilty, contract help, legal help etc etc.I would def see what the australian union offers you. Quote
pill Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 haha i think i may have already been referred to - but i go through a company called action insurance for equipment and public liability. Its special for musicians.about $600 a year for $15,000 or so worth of equipment cover (stealage from car/venue, accidental breakage, etc.)Public liability for me and my other dj (who works at seperate venues) is about $700 or so per year for $5m cover. Not cheap, but cheaper than being sued. Quote
