Thinking about planning a NYE event...

So me and a mate are thinking of planning an event on NYE, we may be able to get a rooftop venue in the centre of our city. I remember seeing a thread a while back on how many tickets you could sell before something becomes an official event that you need permits for and the like but i cant find it anywhere. Has anyone had any experience with something like this? We are thinking of people buying a ticket and then food and drink provided for the night, with DJ's etc. There is a mass fire works display here every year just near the venue as well at midnight so this would work well also providing the weather is good! Thoughts people?

yeah well thats really what I am asking, if I go to the council, they will want in on some sort of fees, permits etc and our council is VERY BAD with stuff like that lol. so if its just freinds and stuff and we have maybe like a donation for entry to cover costs etc, would that work? Like I said I remember there being a thread about some mass party with tickets and stuff that had to be called off but I cant find it!

This thread has some gold in it regarding running a club night.

and this has some info on licensing vs private party:

I disagree with Tomy just becasue this is planned on a rooftop. A warehouse party in an industrial area will go pretty much undetected on NYE, a rooftop gig in the city is gonna wind up any lonely fucker who can hear it... which means you should prob be prepared for visits from the filth.

Dunno how you feel about the law but they are generally pretty busy on NYE with idiots so arent generally patient and thoughtful if you're adding to their workload.

Yeah i mean I dont want to cause shit, I have had a look at noise restrictions and we can play till 11pm no probs so it would only be a couple more hours really. I might have a talk to them and see how far we can bend the rules haha its not like we will have 500 people there or anything just a bit of fun really. I will have a look at that thread now thanks foolish

If its on a rooftop in the city wont there shitloads of other people having partys and whatnot? so the noise made by yours will just blend in? as if the council people are going to hear the music from YOUR party and not every other persons having a piss up and some tunes.

If it's a party it's all good.

If it's a money making event it will require a touch more thought/planning/licensing... or a better hiding place IMO.

You guys know your cities tho :)

it wouldnt be money making as such, as we would need to buy the drinks, food, hire the place so I guess its more of a party... i like crundys thinking haha

yeah i had another read of that, its not going to be anywhere near that big maybe 80 people tops, i mean the roof top isnt really that big haha

just get everyone to chip in for some drinks n food n dont bea gronk and advertise it then some public hero will hear and thats the only thing that'll get ya shut down brah, glad i could help C:

^absolutely Tomy.

I thought you were on a money-spinning 500+ event thing on a roof and were risking tax evasion charges etc lol!

I also forget you guys dont have a "criminal justice act" or a zillion CCTV cameras like the U.K. has.

disregard my previous comments :)
