Suby Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 So me and a mate are thinking of planning an event on NYE, we may be able to get a rooftop venue in the centre of our city. I remember seeing a thread a while back on how many tickets you could sell before something becomes an official event that you need permits for and the like but i cant find it anywhere. Has anyone had any experience with something like this? We are thinking of people buying a ticket and then food and drink provided for the night, with DJ's etc. There is a mass fire works display here every year just near the venue as well at midnight so this would work well also providing the weather is good! Thoughts people? Quote
Mitch Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 This thread has some gold in it regarding running a club night.viewtopic.php?f=72&t=585&hilit=club+nightis the place your getting a club, coz could you use their licences for stuff ? I have no experience with that though. Read tomy's stuff in that thread Quote
Suby Posted September 26, 2011 Author Posted September 26, 2011 Nah its not an actual club its just a large open rooftop ontop of a 6 story city building.. I will check out that thread anyway thanks mitch Quote
imadje Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 rooftop in a city and you got noise pollution issues big time. even on NYE.plus generally everything costs double on NYE. Price accordingly. Quote
Tomy Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 just do it. i reckon but do it smart, dont have it too loud or run way too late. turn the music off a 1 or something, and keep it small. Quote
mattus123 Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 isnt there some rule about 'as soon as u charge for entry, you need all sorts of insurance and permits and stuff?'would it be worth calling the council and asking some questions? Quote
Suby Posted September 27, 2011 Author Posted September 27, 2011 yeah well thats really what I am asking, if I go to the council, they will want in on some sort of fees, permits etc and our council is VERY BAD with stuff like that lol. so if its just freinds and stuff and we have maybe like a donation for entry to cover costs etc, would that work? Like I said I remember there being a thread about some mass party with tickets and stuff that had to be called off but I cant find it! Quote
imadje Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 This thread has some gold in it regarding running a club night.viewtopic.php?f=72&t=585&hilit=club+nightand this has some info on licensing vs private party:viewtopic.php?f=43&t=6773&hilit=hangarI disagree with Tomy just becasue this is planned on a rooftop. A warehouse party in an industrial area will go pretty much undetected on NYE, a rooftop gig in the city is gonna wind up any lonely fucker who can hear it... which means you should prob be prepared for visits from the filth. Dunno how you feel about the law but they are generally pretty busy on NYE with idiots so arent generally patient and thoughtful if you're adding to their workload. Quote
Suby Posted September 27, 2011 Author Posted September 27, 2011 Yeah i mean I dont want to cause shit, I have had a look at noise restrictions and we can play till 11pm no probs so it would only be a couple more hours really. I might have a talk to them and see how far we can bend the rules haha its not like we will have 500 people there or anything just a bit of fun really. I will have a look at that thread now thanks foolish Quote
crundyy Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 If its on a rooftop in the city wont there shitloads of other people having partys and whatnot? so the noise made by yours will just blend in? as if the council people are going to hear the music from YOUR party and not every other persons having a piss up and some tunes. Quote
imadje Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 If it's a party it's all good. If it's a money making event it will require a touch more thought/planning/licensing... or a better hiding place IMO.You guys know your cities tho Quote
Suby Posted September 27, 2011 Author Posted September 27, 2011 it wouldnt be money making as such, as we would need to buy the drinks, food, hire the place so I guess its more of a party... i like crundys thinking haha Quote
imadje Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 crundy thinks well it all depends how many you are inviting and how you get their donations...that hangar thread had the juice if i remember right... Quote
Suby Posted September 27, 2011 Author Posted September 27, 2011 yeah i had another read of that, its not going to be anywhere near that big maybe 80 people tops, i mean the roof top isnt really that big haha Quote
crundyy Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 just get everyone to chip in for some drinks n food n dont bea gronk and advertise it then some public hero will hear and thats the only thing that'll get ya shut down brah, glad i could help C: Quote
Suby Posted September 27, 2011 Author Posted September 27, 2011 i reckon your spot on dude... low key is the go Quote
mattus123 Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 yea got people to chip in before hand i reconaslong as its not paying at the door to get in type of tihng, i recon u could act dumb if it turns to shit Quote
Tomy Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 at the end of the day what's the worst that will happen? the cops rock up and say "turn it off" big deal. Quote
imadje Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 ^absolutely Tomy.I thought you were on a money-spinning 500+ event thing on a roof and were risking tax evasion charges etc lol!I also forget you guys dont have a "criminal justice act" or a zillion CCTV cameras like the U.K. has.disregard my previous comments Quote
