Lurk6r Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Yo, tomorrow I got a school gig, Its only for 45 min, 1 hour maybe depending on how it goes and if they let me go over. Its going to be in their hall with about 1200 people. I got 6 12inch speakers and 3 amps, the speakers will be on either side of my table, stacked on top of each other. No lights tough cause this is a freebie. Is there anything that I'm missing? Quote
SolDios Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Might be better to spread the speakers out abit, I can't remember the logic behind it but it sounds better. Quote
Jaz Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Sounds fine man, halls usually bounce sound like crazy anyway, and it's a freeby so I wouldn't worry to muchwhy so short? Quote
Lurk6r Posted September 22, 2011 Author Posted September 22, 2011 Its their end of term school party day thing. Usually they get a police charity band, but weren't able to this time, so a few strings were pulled and BAM! I'm hoping that this can be my foot in the WHALE/asshole/door towards doing formals and such. I know "every gig is unique, etc" but this one is weird. 45 min, girls only, its during the day, NO ALCOHOL. My mum heard some girls on the train talking about it, so hopefully its a good crowd.Fuck that reminds me, i need to redo my website so I don't look like a pedo. Quote
imadje Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 practise setting up and making it work before you go. Any tech problem could eat up the whole 45 minutes....and 1200 school girls... pheromone city mate, take a gas mask Quote
Cupe Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Fuck that reminds me, i need to redo my website so I don't look like a pedo.FUCKEN LOL Quote
styga Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 haha try pull some numbers but as an idea maybe take business cards (if you have any) so that some of the girls can hire you for their house partys Quote
SourceRaver Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 45 minutes? Its going to take you longer to set up than the actual gig itself!Get there early to set up. Foolish is right, any tech problems will really eat into your time. Make sure the organisers are on time as well, if they run over with speeches and whatnot then your effort will be be nothing. Spend a bit of time making your set up look really pro (black cloth on table and hide all your cables). Make sure they, or you, give yourself a good plug(s). Maybe organise a banner or something with your details on it. (Bugger...just realised I may have been a bit late with my advice. Howd it go?) Quote
Lurk6r Posted September 24, 2011 Author Posted September 24, 2011 They set mr up next to the hall (outside) cause they're thing was gonna go overtime so I'd only have 20 min to play if I waited. I set up, play for a bit then, cause everybody was in the hall they ask if I wanted to move it in there. So I say yeh why not.Basically I set up on a table, on stage, while they were doing their farewell speeches, in front of the entire school. When we Finnaly started they turned the hall lights down so it was very dark. I didn't bring any lights cause we agreed they didn't want to spend money and there would be a tech guy to operate the hall par cans, the guy wasn't actually told.So basically no lights(except my Mac screen was on full brightness so you could see me) cables everywhere, the people in charge of keeping everybody off stage weren't there so most people came on stage. It pretty much ended up being a very large house party more or less. But everybody had fun. The coordinator took heaps of cards off me to give to the girls turning 18 and I got my photos to prove it.
