In my opinion cd's, there much quicker to flick though, and some cdj's wont support some file types, also if your using cdj 1000's, they don't have usb ports. Just do cd's, so much easier and are compatible with everything if you burn them as an audio cd

This is such a hard topic for me, i started on USB, then went to CD's, and now im going back to USB again...cant make up my mind...and both is just impractical

Also depends how many songs you are putting on a CD. If you are making an Mp3 CD with hundreds of songs, you might as well use a USB. If you are making an audio CD, or want to limit the amount of songs, it would probably be easier to have CDs with 10-20 songs on each and label them so you can quickly flick through them to find what song you want. Some people even go to having one song per CD to flick through them.

One good thing for CD's is that all cd decks are able to play cds, where as not all cd decks will play USB, but you have to keep in mind that you'll need two coppies of each CD incase you want to mix two songs on the same disc together.

Like everyone said, it's personal preference, but CDs would probably be the safer option if you are planning for different venues.

i use both i keep mostly specifict play lists on my usb eg best urban, best house, best club. Cds are dying for me though especialy when you consider how quick it is to load a usb stick compared with burning cds

used cd's for 2 years, used usb for the first time tonight linked up with rekord box, and im sold, can sort all your songs into playlist folders, so have them split into genre's (for me, dubstep, glitch hop, drumstep, hiphop all in diffrent folder) also tells you track tempo and you can save cue points.(doubt ill ever use them though)

beats buying cd's all the time, especially for me as my laptops burner is shot and wont burn anymore :(

There is no real preferred music source so to speak, end of the day it comes down to what suits you and what your comfortable with.

but wouldnt what your comfortable with be your preferred source?

Lot's of clubs don't have Tt's (or there just buried away somewhere), it's just easier using cdj's anyway, And there's alot more things such as loops and cue points we can use to improve our mixes.

No tables? Shit... I'd be screwed if I ever got a gig over here then. I've never used a CDJ in my life.

Well, thats a lie I suppose. Was booked for a gig a few months back and got told it was gonna be CDJ's only. Borrowed a set of 1000's off my mate to get a bit of practice. Didn't like them at all. Old habits die hard and having always used vinyl I just couldn't get comfortable with CDJ's.

Luckily they changed it to tt's and CDJ's.

i use vinyl russell. well time code vinyl in the majority, then a handful of 80's-90's hip hop, pop and house.(EDIT: though i dont play out)

there are a few of us on here still using turnies.

and sol, not sure how many clubs youve been to in the last 12 months but i can tell you in syd there are still a lot of turnies getting their wear. more than half of what i hit (though i am retired from the scene) are still using turntables.

and thats in pubs, clubs, and even shops and cafes

I tried CDs for one day, i reckon i spent half a day just burning CDs to take to a gig for one night. And that was doing 8 tracks per CD.

USBs, just keep your itunes up to date, then plug your usbs in, analyse tracks in recordbox and copy across. Much quicker for batch processing, can have playlists, view by artist, album, track, key, even search. USB is the way to go on recordbox compatible players

it pretty much depends on what your plans are with djing. if you want to play many venues then go cd's - you really don't have much choice because you won't be playing on new cdjs everytime and its a head fuck to burn cds for a singular gig. its easier to have a cd collection and then just use usbs when you feel like it.
