awesome88 Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 So my Mrs is a primary school teacher, and they have asked me to do the djing for their year 6 farewell.... I don't mind to do it, but don't know if i need to do activies or anything considering it's primary school. Obviously i'll speak to the school to see what they want, but has anyone done anything like this before? i haven't done it before, but the pay isn't bad for 2.5hrs work lol and considering it's during the week could be a decent way to make some extra money.Anyone have suggestions? or had any experience with them?cheers Quote
styga Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 the one thing i know of is if your playing tracks its gotta be the radio edit incase of swear words and shit Quote
SourceRaver Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 Did one of these A few weeks back...DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT TAKE REQUESTS! You will be constantly inundated with a million small children asking for their favourite song. Get a parent or staff member to do it for you and then have a look at the list when you can.The kids are really well educated when it comes to the most recent chart music. They loved Gaga and the Black Eyed Peas. But they also went mad to ABBA, The Village People and some of the worlds most cheesiest songs (Macareena, Dj Otzi etc). Next Time I'll take more top 40.The parents didnt organise any actvities but the were kids were just happy to dance, run around after one another or form a snake and weave around the crowd. At one point I played a David Hasselhof version of the limbo just for a bit of fun.Easy gig and a good little money earner if you dont volunteer like I did. Jaz Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 yeh as source said the top 100 in the charts right now will be your best friend man Quote
imadje Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 i've always been scared of these coz the guy who does my daughters school does loads of activities, mic work, dance comp, etc etc. the tunes he plays are the last thing on his mind and pre-arranged.then again if source says avoiding all that worked too then maybe I should re-think. EZ gigs are ez... and at a time of day where you can go str8 to another function i guess. Quote
Lurk6r Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 All the dj's that did my school functions were just duds playing one song after another, no mixing, no nothing. I say take it, if only for their sake. Quote
mattus123 Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 i remeber my year 6 farewell we did some sort of dance competition thingand i ithnk we did all those shitty dances liek nutbush, macareena etc etc Quote
awesome88 Posted August 22, 2011 Author Posted August 22, 2011 Sweet, thanks boiz. I spoke to my mrs, and she said they'll have one of the teachers probably doing the mcing, so looks like i'll just have to take care of the music. I don't mind doing it since it's my mrs school, the money is just a bonus. But it got me thinking about maybe doing more if it goes alright.... the main reason i never got out into club djing is becuase i work all week and don't wanna work on a friday and saturday night as well lol.... but $300 for 2.5hrs work on a week night isn't bad Quote
Lurk6r Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Talk to the teacher doing the mc'ing before hand, on the off chance if s/he's clueless then you might as well offer to do it. Quote
