Idea for a business, partners and/or investors needed.

So I posted the bones of this idea in the "what does adjf need" thread but just so I can be sure none of you miss it I am reposting.

I want to move my family to Australia. I want to continue doing the same work there that i do here.

All I need is visas stating I have work there. Once I get there I can do the rest.

I am looking for partners or investors who will help me. If all you want to do is set up the paperwork so the business is registered and then employ me (at no cost) so I get the visa then that is good, you'll have a permanent position on the board. If you want to come in on a 50/50 split and be fully involved in setting up the business that is great. I am 100% flexible how things are set up. I am also 100% flexible where this would be done but have done some research into competition and market so have some ideas. I just need to be there to start the ball rolling and to get there I need the visa. its a bit of a catch 22.

The business:

I teach DJ skills to private customers. I also teach to kids with behavioural difficulties, young offenders, kids on probation, kids with special needs or kids from rural communities... basically anyone that isnt doing great in normal education for whatever reason. The kind of kids that the government funds to keep busy. The business can be set up as a charity or can be entirely private. The business would require premises, ideally 2 or 3 teaching spaces of various sizes, one of which can be used for parties and showcases of talent. The business would require DJ kit. I would fund if necessary but sharing with an investor makes things easier/quicker. The business would require advertising to private customers. My experience, training and references would bring in the govt funded work.

The business would work best if at least one other tutor was available to do music production lessons, having a rapper/MC who can deliver is also good, as is having a graf artist and some street/break-dance tutors. That way we cover all the elements of "urban art"

I would train and mentor any teaching staff we needed to employ as to how best to deal with the different groups of kids. In my experience it is best to employ these kind of staff as sub-contractors anyway so employee wages are not a big drain.

The business could also offer rent of the rooms to other tutors on other instruments as extra income.

To fund my family while this business was getting moving I would do Mobile DJ gigs on the weekend and my wife would continue her online translation work. We would also rent our property in the U.K. so would have income from that.

Obviously I'm not gonna give out all the details of my business idea.

ANYONE INTERESTED IN SRS POST?

if i had the capital i would love to jump on this, unfortunately at the moment im a slave to the system, plus living in a rural town limits the cliental :(. Honestly id love to be invovled in some way, but with my current situation being a investor/partner is just not an option at the moment. I hope someone can jump on this and help you out financial wise because i dont know of anything like this going on at the moment and would be a pretty open market

I'd be up for this but I live in Perth and its a much smaller population than the other major cities. You would be better served if you based yourself in Melbourne or Sydney.

I've also just started updating my website with a basic Dj course. I'll send you the link and you can tell me what you think.

great stuff guys, PM'd you both.

I go camping for a week from this monday so dont expect much contact but:

The way I see it is this: you can all DJ and/or produce, you all have good kit.

Please consider the following and see how involved you would really want to be:

Can you teach? it takes a lot of patience, sometimes with people you really wouldn't piss on if they were on fire. and sometimes needs an ability to read peoples minds.

Can you run a business? We would most likely need to source premises, adhere to all the laws regarding insurance, tax, safety, copyright and who knows what else. We would also need to advertise/market services so would need a website, flyers etc etc. Plus of course we need to be sure we earn enough to pay everyone involved, so the more people involved the more we need to earn... streamlined is a good way to start.

I have done all this before but in UK so assuming there are differences in employment and tax law I would need to start from square 1 in OZ.

to be honest: ideally for me someone else runs the business and employs me as tutor for students and as trainer for new staff.

if this wont work I will run the business but this would mean I have less time for the actual teaching which is what I'm very good at.

Basically though I cant even get there to sort stuff unless I get a Visa for my family, which i believe means a business has to be already set up and inviting me over.

As already mentioned I think email is a better way to comm from now on, maybe we can arrange a skype conference or something when I'm back from camping hol to see what ideas everyone has? unless we can arrange a private group on here or something?

Wazza, Cupe, Source, Skank, Gandy, Foolish, sounds like a good group to act as the Board of Directors to me...

so lots to think about, I'll leave it with you all, see what you think...

sounds like a solid idea to me

i wont be able to help set up the business, but if u come to Sydney, i know ALOT of people who work in the special needs industry

i could advertise your services to them, i reocn they'd think its a good idea too

most of them deal with special needs kids, as opposed to kids on probation and that sort of thing

Fool love the idea mate, if I wasn't in the whole family mode thing I would love to throw some serious cash at this, but unfortunately the amount I could offer wouldn't seem like much :( I could put forward enough to buy a set of decks and a mixer :( but I reckon you got a massive following here mate, I look forward to seeing you downunder soon!!!!

Hey fool. Not sure if you remember back in your past life i mentioned Heaps Decent, the Mad Decent charity arm (diplo's label). They do stuff downunder, and i know Nina Las Vegas is up there with the Australian chapter.

Only prob is not sure if its a paid gig. But might be worth checking out. Not sure how, have a browse around the mad decent site or pop nina las vegas an email, tweet, pm, pigeon mail.

EDIT: oh they have a webby page

Having spoken to an immigration officer I have verified a few things and I can tell it's not worth beating around the bush on this one.

To get me over there the DJ school (or any employer) would have to be set up in business already. They would also have to be able to prove that they had advertised a post and that they could not find anyone in Australia who was skilled enough or willing to take on the role. Then they could apply to sponsor me for what is called a 457 visa. Part of this application would also involve proving that during the course of my work in Australia I would need to be trained in some fashion at an accountable cost to the business.

I know this is possible and that there are always ways round this sort of bureacracy if there is a will. But I'm a "cards on the table" kinda guy so thought i'd share the info. If anyone is still interested be assured I would do as much as physically possible from here to help get things done and I would more than pull my weight to make up for lost time when I arrived. Please remember my wife will also be earning, I will DJ weekends and we will have an income from renting our house in the U.K. so I wouldn't actually need a big wage from the business. Until such time as it starts to really roll anyway :)

PMs if you still bovvered?
