Lurk6r
You need an amp for those speakers.+ its like 100 bucks more for shipping.Get some semi decent hi fi speakers second hand and save up for some pa's down the track.
imadje
Get some semi decent hi fi speakers second hand and save up for some pa's down the track.^agreed.If you buy cheap kit it will just need replacing sooner so doesnt actually save you any cash.If you do need something big for a party get the party host to hire some P.A. Jaz
i wouldnt touch them man, and yeh what the rest said, they need a decent external amp to power 4 woofers (maybe $500) + postage...and i bet the speakers are rubbishyou would be better off buying some legit powered speakers like behringer etc

Lurk6r
I believe that's a passive speaker, meaning that you will need an amplifier to power it. For practicing at home, i'd recommend a cheap 2.1 computer sound system. Something like this:http://msy.com.au/product.jsp?productId=5766

What about a 5.1 or something bigger?? does it all hook up the same way?
Mitch
Djing your only using stereo sound so a 5.1 system is going to have no benefit at all over 2.1. In fact I think it sounds worse, and switch my 5.1 system to 2.1 when djing
imadje
For practise at home, sessions where I teach and small parties I use wharfedale diamond 8.1 actives. They are designed as studio reference monitors but with a bit of eqing on the mixer you can get a fine sound for a party, also are reasonable price for build quality and very portable.Any pair of active monitors will do. For parties bigger than 15/20 people you would need something bigger tho.
street
by eqing on the mixer do you men just turning the bass up more? or is there more to it?
imadje
not far off, in my case it's turning the bass down a little. what I mean is dont expect reference monitors to sound warm like hifi. You'll have to use your ears to find a sound that suits your music and the room you are in.
