Looking to get my first controller

So this post is gonna make me look like a total scrub but Im looking to get my first dj controller. Ive been using only my computer with that free virtual DJ program but people obviously get really disappointed when I show up just with a laptop haha. Im pretty strapped for cash so I figured going with a controller might be the cheap way to be slightly more legit.

so heres my n00b questions

If I get a controller am I gonna have to buy a new dj program or will virtual DJ be compatible?

Any recommendations?

Does anyone have any other cheap suggestions for setups?

I started out with a bcd3000. $200 from store dj.

Half the reason I got it was cause it had a build in sound card so I could cue through the headphones.

It comes with traktor Le which does everything traktor pro does except:

- no timecode

- only 5 effects - flange,delay,reverb,filter...

- 2 decks, not 4

Overall Its pretty good value.

The only downside is that its made of plastic so its not as durable as I'd like it to bed, but it does the job.

most controllers come with some software.

The mixtrack is a reasonable choice, there is a version called the mixtrack pro which has internal sound and doesnt cost to much more. There is a review here: http://www.ausdjforums.com/modules.php? ... pic&t=6655

Internal sound is very useful.

behringer bcd 3000 is not a good tool IMO due to build quality (sorry lurker)

do i even need to say it? lol :teef:

i've got the denon mc6000 which is worth a look into. I did a review of it against the S4 since i've had both in the controller section.

haha, i didnt even mention the NS6 yet, reckon his budget wont reach the pro models.

If you are looking fro pro gear the MC6000, NS6, S4, VCI 300 and DDJT-1/DDJS-1 are the main contenders for all in one portable units. google will prob recognise the model numbers without you needing brand name and there are reviews of most on this forum, use search.

I agree the bcd3000 is a piece of crap, but cost to feature wise its good see if djing is for you.

^fair play. A few years back it was one of only a few with internal sound... Reckon Hercules RMX and Numark Mixtrack Pro have taken that market now but. Not much more money for much more reliable unit.
