Skank Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 I just got home from a huge night played to a full house great crowd and even better ladiesAn interesting situation arised and I thought I'd see what the greater forum would do in the same situationSo the club I was playing at usually has a shitty cdj 400 set up which is pretty sverage for a venue of its reputation. Upon entering the booth I saw that there were 2 cdj 2000 and a djm 900 in road cases left behind from the event thenight before. Without blinking I wiped out the high end gear and got my mix on and quiet enjoyed the upgradeSo now the questin that is still playing in my head, is it ethical to use equipment that miight be left beind by another crew or production team. I'm nott talking bout personal equipment I mean rentals and even leased gear lighting even speakersOpinions? Quote
CapFive Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 I am going to say it is OK, someone like you would look after it, its not like your a noob fumbling and bumbling, they know you would appreciate the gear Quote
SourceRaver Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 Marginal I would say. Its hard to believe someone would leave all their gear behind for a whole day? If I were them, I would be happy to find out you were using the gear and not actually stealing it! Quote
LabRat Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 If it's someone else's gear I'd say it's wrong. If it belongs to the club or the club has hired it, it's worth asking the question Quote
SolDios Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 I think you need to slap the club owner and get him to upgrade Quote
imadje Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 Marginal I would say. agreed and good q.I have left gear overnight regularly in trusted venues. It never happened but I reckon I wouldnt have minded someone pro using it who would look after it. Now i'm older and have mouths to feed I would be thinking of wear and tear and a hire fee though. On the other hand: I have used kit i found lieing around in booths without asking whose it was but I've never opened a closed box, guess thats where i draw the line. Jaz Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 i think if its rentals go for your life, get who's ever payed for its money's worth...its its someone's personal gear. ask them 1st Quote
imadje Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 forgot to say last night, i dont think it makes a dif if rental or not. Rental business is still just some blokes business so to him the gear is what we would call personal. Quote
imadje Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 i have insurance too, dont you?if kit gets wrecked you still cant use it until insurance pays out and that means lost work/gigs and lost rep.Like I said: good q, got me pondering too...for me it wouldnt matter what it said on the box, i wouldnt open it, but it also wouldnt matter what it said on a piece of kit that wasnt in a box - i would use it p.s. nice rig in the avatar skank. Gandy Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 hmm very interesting question, i probably wouldnt as i wouldnt know for sure if it was hired or personal equip and on the very remote chance something go wrong with them i wouldnt risk the blame, but someone of your experience i dont think there was anythign wrong with you ussing them over an entry level setup used in a reputable club Quote
