Mitch
here is a comparison of a bunch of video editing software, so look at what features you want to start narrowing down between programs:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison ... g_softwareYou looking for mac or windows software?Ive used sony vegas a bit, it was alright, fairly simple to use, decent feature set from what i remember. was a few years ago though, the game has probably changed a bit since then.If your only after basic stuff, iMovie is fairly decent, and comes on all macs anyway

LabRat
thats it man. of you want free stuff, its best to use the onboard programs they give you. they arent the best but they do the basic job that the rest do. i use iMovie a bit and it works a treat for what i want
SourceRaver
Windows Movie Maker gives me the shits sometimes and refuses to save some projects. I've been using Windows Live Movie Maker with a lot more success.
gcdj
all depends what you really need. if your just doing basic editing go with imovie but if your wanting to get into more detail i'd reccomend adobe premiere pro. also depends on specs of your computer and what quality of vide your wanting to edit(the higher definition the better the computer has to be)
lloydc
this is the latest bit of software from the mixed in key guys:http://oneideavideo.com/looks like it has potential, although not free.
tommykesh
if pc, use windows movie maker. mac, use iMovie. best things on a budgetmate get a mac for that stuff, Imovie is a good start, but Final Cut comes in a cheaper version called Final Cut Express. It's pretty easy to use, you can do more with it and it's only about $270 if you fell like paying. Gelo
Sony Vegas + Adobe After Effectspretty good combo if your using Windows
eggssell
Ive cut a few movies on premiere. Not user friendly but once you get into it it becomes intuitive. And if you have used photoshop before somethings are the same. Using premiere you can pretty much do what the pros do, green screen, stop motion, picture in picture, grey outs, whatever. But yeah not free or cheap.
