Suby Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 Hey guys, ive been mixing on a couple of cdj350s and a djm350 for about a year and i am really keen to get a bit more into it and do some small gigs over the summer maybe some house parties and stuff. What do I do to get into gigs, do i start advertising or just asking around? Should I upgrade my equimptment? it seems like there is only so much I can do on it, or am i just getting a little ahead of myself? lol like I said I am pretty new to this stuff so any help would be great!thanks mark Quote
Skank Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 2 things spring to mind1- find a friend or friend of a friend that is an active dj and tag along with them sort of like an apprenticeship2- hammer every birthday party invite and notification on facebook and offer to dj for free to get some experience(they usually end up giving you money by the end of the night) this will get you tons of experience and build a following Quote
crundyy Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 yeah dood, make a page on facebook, get ya name out there! let everyone whos havin a party know your down to dj for them! dont charge heaps for it, just do it for the experience then when you build up more loweys that want to suck your dick (dj) at their party you'l be set! Jaz Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 yeh man its all word of mouth and advertising when your a mobile DJ, you have to wait for people to chase you Quote

imadje Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 ez,^ wot skank and sol said:plus go out loads, meet everyone, especially be around when anyone says "all back to mine" ...lots of opportunities to dj in front of people, and meet them, at after parties. Quote
Suby Posted July 21, 2011 Author Posted July 21, 2011 thanks guys good tips! im in Geelong in victoria. sounds like I might have to start searching FB and crash my way into some mates parties ha Quote
pundaddy Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 Dont be scared to approach promoters aswell, seek out a couple on facebook, go out to clubs and introduce yourselves to them and ask them if they wouldnt mind having a listen to one of your mixes. Quote
fackedd Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 i found it easier to get club gigs (hotels too ect ect) than mobile gigs funnily enough.which is why I dont do much mobile stuff anymore. All about who you know and if your prepared to chat to promoters. Quote
Florro Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Be particularly interested in those that are having their parties at function centres. Alot of them are screaming out for resident DJ's or at the very least someone they can point their customers too. Get there early in the day to set so you can meet the owners/managers. alot of them wont do the graveyard shift when you are actually playing. Introduce yourself and just generally chat about what you do. We are now first port of call for 5 function centres in town and just got asked to resident another one on Sat nights but were booked nearly every saturday night until March next year. Quote
