SolDios Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 1. I know the original bpm of a song before pitch is changed?2. I round up bpm's so there not stupid numbers like 182.5 Quote
BeatLeSS Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 God no! Go for it buddy! That'd just be like saying "is it cheating if i study before my exam?"Though completely unaustralian if you don't wing exams, definitely not un-dj to do your homework! Quote
styga Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 Though completely unaustralian if you don't wing examsthat was pretty much my entire time through high school and i still passed Quote
CBG Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 I've been playing for a fair while now, my opinion is, if you no how to beatmatch without any form of assistance, then it is fine to do what you've described. I mark my tracks with their BPMs. Trust me, very handy when you have to do a 5hr set... Quote
chrismak Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 I wouldn't even consider knowing the current BPM as "cheating". For the purpose of your challenge its fine.I recommend using only your ears during practice though. Its the ultimate way to train your brain. Quote
street Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 In my collection which is dominated by electro house, 90% of the tracks are going to be either 128 or 130bpm coz thats how they roll and most I know the bpm off by heart so yeah, cant see it being cheating. Quote
JonnyB Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 what you talk of it knowledge of your tracksand knowledge is power my friend! Quote
Jaz Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 not cheating at all, you can help what your memory is Quote
imadje Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 agreed. b4 any beatcounters were invented I used to label all tracks with their bpm by manually counting beats while timing 10 seconds, multiply this by 6 = BPM.a real ball-ache but so useful.Whenever i was looking for a tune but knew i needed a beatmatched mix for the floor I could look at the label I had put on a vinyl cover and see if they could feasibly match b4 even pulling the vinyl out of the sleeve. NOwadays I sort all playlists by the bpm column so I can see str8 away which tunes are within range of a beatmatch. I dont alwyas choose to match and may do tracks to change tempo instead but its still really useful to have all the original tempos noted. Quote
tommykesh Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 sorry still cant use this new thing they call the inter net, Ears first, then when you can do that its all good Quote
