SolDios Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Ok, I now announce the mdex a useless for mixing, Mobile'ing it ok but yeh.All throughout use I have noticed that it every now and then it randomly speeds up and slows down, this immediately throws me out the mix and forces me to beat match again. Also when I move the pitch up 1 notch or whatever, it sometimes sounds faster than what it normally would by moving it up one notch.Unfortunately this means I can not complete the Challenge without using the computer, and therefore do not meet its requirements Quote
mattus123 Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 u sure its the equipment?some songs change tempo as it progresses, it is a PAIN!!!try looping a certain section and mix that in, that way you know it will all be the same BPM Quote
ill_spector Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 from what you just saidid'e say its not the mdex, its you,by the sounds of it you're not beatmatchning long enough.you may be only out by 1 bpm or so? and you might not notice that after 4 bars? then just bang it in anywaybut after 16 bars or so, that 1bpm out is now 4 or 5?also saying moving the pitch up 1 notch is faster for some tracks than others?yeh duh moving the pitch changes the percentage.so on a track thats 125 bpm moving it plus 1% (or one notch) it is now at 126.25 bpm (1.25 bpm(1%) gain)and a track at 140 at +1% would be a gain of1.4 bpm (141.4)so moving the pitch varies on the original bpm of the song, not just moving pitch "notch" = 1bpmor whateverso in conclusion, you may be not moving the pitch enough for different track to make the bpm differences the same? and therefore your tracks are going out of "sync after a few bars"?sorry for the rant, hope this helps? Gandy Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 so what have you been doing at parties if you cant beatmatch? Quote
CapFive Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 sol, i never said you had to ise the mdex, i would prefer you to, but this is about you learning how mixes are built and what thought process goes into them, no one here will doubt that you know what it takes to be a DJ, you got the heart, and you invest yourself into it,it's all about you learning the next step and moving from being a jukebox at a party, to actually creating transitions which form parts that other people will never hear, you almost become a producer for the 30 sec between songs. So use VDJ if need be, use traktor or ableton, but ask us howYou still have till Monday bro, and everyone is willing to helpGL Quote
Jaz Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 sounds like the mdex cant hold or control pitch properly...im not surprised Quote
SolDios Posted July 19, 2011 Author Posted July 19, 2011 Basically to confirm my suspicions I played a long 20m long drum beat with no changes, moved the pitch slider up one notch, then back down, and up one notch again. Every time sounded different from the last. Also I sat down and listened to the drum beat, every now and then for around 20 seconds each the beat increased in tempo for about 15 - 30 seconds each time. To check this wasn't the track, I wrote down when in the track it happened and the next time I played the track, it happened in completely different places. the cross faded also produces a static sound when moving across slowly Quote
SolDios Posted July 19, 2011 Author Posted July 19, 2011 mmhm, well ive got $300 out of the $1250 I need for new gear Quote

Gandy Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 so what have you been doing at parties if you cant beatmatch?sol, i think you might have missed my question i asked you Quote
SolDios Posted July 19, 2011 Author Posted July 19, 2011 Oops, sozzy, haha, basically just as the other one drops the beat and fades out, I bring in the next track with a slight overlap. Quote
Gandy Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 well if the crowd digs it, go with ithow far off to you get your pio gear?? Quote
SolDios Posted July 19, 2011 Author Posted July 19, 2011 bout $900 to gogoing to get two 800's and a A&H XD 22 mixerI was paranoid of relying on a lappy, so controllers/dvs became a no no. Quote
Gandy Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 you'll appreciate it more going that route, just dont get discouraged when learning to beatmatch, its frustrating when first starting out but that makes it more rewarding when it becomes second nature Quote
Duracell Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 A trick I found to help me while i was learning to beatmatch, when you want to find out which track is going slower or faster, listen to the track you are cueing and the track thats playing, and see which one finishes 4 bars first (listen for the cymbal crash or drum breakdown ect) and that will give you the clue as to slow down or speed up the cueing track anyway works different for everybody but that worked well for me stick with it bro Quote
Mitch Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 Another trick I found was once you have cued the next track and have it playing, turn up the cue mix on the headphones and makes it easier (for me) to beatmatch having both tunes in the cans. Not sure how many people do it like that but it helps i think when your learning. Quote
