People are silly
a mobile dj is like fully one on the back of a car and stuff always moving about like all the time. I think a club dj is from Canada

WOW

they can't be serious....can they?

sol, by the sounds of it, you don't have any competition in your area, if iw as you i would charge $50 an hour :) your speakers and lights alone would be worth that... i charge $70 p/h min with just myself showing up, and $150 once off for gear, gotta give yourself some cred and people will expect to pay that after awhile :)

goof gear shows your making money :) thats why people unfortunetly go off it, but if you make a good rep, gear wont matter, word of mouht is everything in our business sol

I have a few problems with the servey...

What happens if your aged between 32 and 39?

Why is the upper limit 40? Are you trying to say that people over 40 have the same opinions as someone turning 100?

What if you prefered DJ isnt a male? (and dont change it to 'he/she' as someone may think your talking about some other type of 'equipment'...wink...wink)

unfortunately the bastards that would hire me judge people by what gear they have

If they haven't heard how good you are, they need something to judge you by. Having good gear tends to indicate that you value reliability and are more serious about what you do. You can't blame them really.

General Curiosity

so far they think we should only charge $20 to $30 an hour

LOL'D

well i think this is fair espescially when your starting out and unless you become professional i dont think the hourly rate should exceed $30 an hour.

After all generally if your a club dj all the gear is provided.....mobile dj'ing is different you have to provide lighting, sound etc...so your hourly rate can be bumped up a bit.

I love dj'ing but in reality we aint worth much, not in comparison to other jobs out in that big world of ours. Lets face it if your planning on dj'ing as a career you may as well become an actor because the unemployment rate is about the same.

Money is in production (and thats because people producing music generally have some type of degree or qualification) these days not dj'ing...not like 20 years ago.

i know its real negative but its the truth.....and it hurts :(
