Genetic Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 ok just so this doesn't turn into a huge thing on copyright laws and shit like that, play in club safe, play mobile dj get licences.i'm curious i was milling this over at work today does a band that plays a cover of a song have to get the artists permission to do so? or is it ok because they are actually playing the music on seperate instruments whereas we play it as a whole unit Quote
D4DirtyRadio Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 Um..I don't quite get your question, but google is your best mate! Quote
Genetic Posted July 4, 2009 Author Posted July 4, 2009 ok when a dj plays a song they have to have permission.does a band need permission? Quote
Skank Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 very very difficult question, almost all the bands i come accross that play covers dont have a licence, i think it may be because essentialy they are not playing someone elses music directly, as in they are composing a track from scratch to mirror another if that makes any sence we as djs play exactly what the artist has made Quote
ruggs Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 i thought this the other day 2 as i watched a local band cover some songs between playing there own.i'd say if the artist wanted to they could sue but if its only small stuff i'd so they don't mind. Quote
Genetic Posted July 6, 2009 Author Posted July 6, 2009 yeah i guess cos it's not a perfect copy and only an imitation of it they don't really do much...sort of like the nike's a mate brought in thailand Quote
