lloydc Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 A lot of you guys are veterans of the web, and know your way around the internet pretty well, so this may not be news to any of you, however, there may be a few of you that can benefit from the following info. Also, post your thoughts and links to other useful resources to make this a running thread of all things web design/marketing, from a DJ’s perspective:We can all pretty much agree that, as a DJ/producer, you’ll need some, or all, of the following if you plan on getting places in the industry:These sites are designed to be noob friendly, and give you a professional image, without the need to purchase webspace and learn a web design program.SOCIAL MEDIA – needs no introduction really... facebook fan pages and twitter seem to be the norm. This could also extend to youtube and vimeo for your mini mixes and mashups/bootlegsA PLACE TO UPLOAD YOUR MIXES/TRACKS-People need to hear your stuff, upload it here:Sound cloud – apparently they don’t like DJ mix tapes anymore? Meh... upload anywayMixcloud – track listings required, people can’t download from hereMix crate – people need to log in to download mixesELECTRONIC PRESS KIT (EPK)- your BIO, photos, discography etcA bit harder, and not as essential, for those lacking experienceArtist e-card – the only place i’ve seen on the web like this. Great CMS (first month free, but like $10 or $15 a month) example site hereA BLOGTheres so many options here (all free)BloggerWordpresstumblerA MAIN WEBSITE (with links to the above)WIX – flash based websites, very easy to customise (free, but has premium options at a monthly fee)Flavours- really like this one... integrates things like facebook and soundcloud etc in a very simple manor. (free, but premium option is $20 for the year) this is my flavours siteWeebly- clean and sharp templates, nice and easy CMS (free, premium options from about $40/yr)Webs – haven’t used this one, but it’s features are much the same as the rest. Good integration with other social media, photos and youtube (free, premium available @ $50yr)register/ search domains here - godaddy or crazydomains Quote

lloydc Posted June 28, 2011 Author Posted June 28, 2011 thats a little ahrd to build on cupe lol he's covered all avenues... but let me do some diggingi haven't covered content of any of the above, nor in depth reviews of their features and short comings.and theres plenty of other options out there that people don't know about, i've only named a few which I have come across Quote
CapFive Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 i guess to delve into that a little more, your website can be the make or break for how someone finds you online, remember these 3 little letters, for they are so importantS.E.O (search engine optimisation):SEO is a technique which helps search engines find and rank your site higher than the millions of other sites in response to a search query.you can build the prettiest website out there, but if google doesnt know how to find you, then your going to have to do alot of work off the internets trying to push your site...there are alot of secrets you can have to make sure when someone types in "sydney mobile DJ" that your the first that comes up.Keyword ResearchThis is one of the most important aspects of SEO. Knowing what consumers are typing into a search engine to find you is essential. There are many tools to help you discover which keywords are profitable and help you decide which terms to optimise your website for.ask someone how they found you when they call, if they say google, as them what they typed in.you can also use the google adword keyword toolcheck this outhttps://adwords.google.com/o/Targeting/ ... earch.nonetype in sydney dj to the search tool and click search.this will give you an idea of the keywords to start off with... (i will explain why this is important in a second).Linking StrategiesA major contributing factor to higher search engine results is links to your website, try to link as many website as you can to yours, this is why so many websites have a links sections. Do not be fooled into thinking quantity is king here, quality is far better for rankings than volume. in other words, make sure your links are relevant, or that have a high ranking in google, so don't be afraid to link competition, you may be the one beating them one day Page Titles, Meta Data and Contentok, the page titles and meta data is a bit hard if you are doing one of the sites lloyd mentioned, but if you get your own website then look into this, it is probably the most powerful way to get to the top.Meta data are keywords that are added to the code of a webpage. Internet browsers do not display this information but search engine spiders use this data to learn more about the page it is crawlingPage titles are the title of the webpage you are currently looking at (e.g About us, Contact us, Wedding DJ, Mobile Sydney DJ etc...)make this as relevant to those keywords you search earlier, this is how google links you to something that someone types in to google, make a lot sense now huh!lastly but not least....... Content! Content is extremely important considering many search engines are starting to bring Latent Semantic Indexing into the mix. LSI means that search engines will hold more weight to pages that have related termsin the content rather than one term repeated many times. Relevant, timely and unique content naturally gets linked to as well.so guys thats my 2cents Quote
